    Default Second opinion needed

    Good day to all,

I am currently residing in South Africa where I owned a security company with 150 employees until recently.

I have extensive experience in security, security audits, HR, health and safety and also have strong law enforcement background.

My question is the following: I had quite a few replies regarding job applications, but most companies informed that they are more than willing to see me once I am in New Zealand. Is this a safe route to go, or is it just a case of NZ comanies being politically correct?

Our longterm goal is to settle in NZ on PR, but I need a job offer to meet 140 points.

Does anyone feel this is a viable undertaking, our will it just be a very expensive holiday? ( Bear in mind S.A. Rand is 5.5 - 1 )

Your input will be greatly appreciated.

    Barry Meiring

    Hi Barry1

I get the idea we are in the same boat here

I have applied for about 100 - 200 jobs online and frankly getting tired of all the "dear John" e-mails back....

Plenty of agencies have said that they are convinced that they can find me a job there so I have to come see them on arrival.

It is alot of money but in my view it will be a small price to pay for the safety of my family and a healthy state of mind.

Barry, I just wanted to check that you know that you don't require 140 points to apply for PR, you only need 100. The 140 ensures automatic selection, but anything over 100 is enough to apply
    Good luck

    Hi
Have you already submitted your EOI? We found that once we had a refference number that we could give prospective employers then the job offers started to come. Employers want to know that you are serious about emigrating and not just checking it out. Once you have made some comitment then people seem more comfortable in comitting.
    Good Luck

I'll second that. When we first investigated emigrating to NZ we found we had 135 points. We knew that if we waited till I completed my degree (I'm noth the main applicant, I'm the partner) we would have 155 points.

We applied with 155 and NZIS rang my partner with a query about his degree (BA in maths and science) and said 'well you don't need those extra points anyway'.

Anything over 100 may get you selected.
