    Default The moving company

    Hi all
Its the moving company who are dealing with my furniture at this end.
We took out the passports etc and alls fine.
But.... She said we have to pay 378bucks for maf inspection, and if things do need cleanded(tho i doubt it as we scrubbed everything well with jeyes) But anyhoo if anything did need cleaned we would be charged for this also.
    Hmph
I surmised that my maf inspection wouldve been covered at the Glasgow end, though did know if anything needed cleaned we would have to pay for that.
has anyone else been hit with 300 odd bucks for the inspection?

I think the cost can depend on how many things need inspecting. I;m sure someone mentioned in another thread though about $100. Will see if I can find it. We are yet to get ours sent on the way it is still in storage but sure we will have all this to go through too.

You could always contact MAF and ask then yourself what the average charges are.

Thats right Kiaora,it is actually customs N.Z not maf that we need to pay.I checked the paperwork(silly me should have done so sooner)
Maf only if things needed cleaned.

Look under Sea Freight and then 'Costs'. This is a link contained in there regarding Biosecurity (Costs) Regulations . I don't know if you can work out from that how much you should be paying.

That figure you quoted, Meadow, sounds familiar to me from the days when The Moving Company and NZ Van Lines were trying to scam people into paying twice for the MAF fees, only they were keeping the extra for themselves. I'd hoped it had been stamped out by now but maybe not. The way around it is to insist that you deal directly with MAF with regard to the fees. And it was MAF that was mentioned rather than Customs. I was just looking again at a link I posted yesterday elsewhere on the forum about Customs and it says:

Remember that if you have paid for door to door shipment, the service of Customs clearance is included in the cost.
