Default Wellington and surroundings

Hello all,

I've finally got my flight and WHV sorted so I'm good to go (cant wait!) I arrive in Wellington on 22nd August and I have 9 days free untill the 31st August, when I start on the Global Volunteer Network program.

Any tips on what I can do? Places to go etc?

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Joe:

There is plenty too see in Wellington and surrounding areas. Here are a few things you might like to check out:

Te Papa Museum...This museum is rich in New Zealand history.

A ride on the cable car...You can get a mgnificent view of Wellington Harbour from the top (end of ride).

A walk around Oriental Bay...also a great view of Wellington Harbour.

Maritine Museum on wharf Aotea Quay.

You may even enjoy a train ride up to the Kapiti Coast.

Just a few suggestions. Maybe someone else will have some more.

Hope this helps.

Suzanne.

Suzanne, nice suggestions. You must be in the area.
Others are:
1. Parliament tour - a freebie.
2. You can take the ferry to Picton. Nice but all day going back and forth. It is getting colder now. A personal favorite as a day out.
3. You can get a day tripper and go from Wellington to parapparumu to The wiarapa. You can cover ground very cheap if the train goes there.
4. Courtney Place in Wellington if you are into night life
5. Lots of bush walks in th region if you into that
6. You can go to one of the shopping malls and people watch

What do you like to do?

Chhers

Cliff

I lived in Wellington before moving to USA. We will be heading back to Wellington spring this year. Since I have been away from Wellington for awhile I have forgotten some places that would be worthwhile for a visitor too see.

One more I have thought of is the Botanical gardens...They are worth seeing.

Cheers,

Suzanne.
