Yes, I can see that it would be inadvisable for someone who had a record for domestic violence to be encouraged to bring in other family members who might be in danger.

My thoughts are that a PR holder who hasn't left NZ, apart from maybe a couple of weeks now and then, shouldn't need to go through the police certificate thing for his/her own country all over again as any misdemeanors should have been brought to light with the original police certificate. Any checks with NZ police will be done by INZ. I would say, if you can prove that you have spent most/all of your time in NZ since you first entered the country, you shouldn't have to go to the expense and hassle of applying for yet another certificate that most probably would only say the same thing as the original.

All the above is depressing news, i havent looked at the updated forms yet , but am going to now. So if my Son is sponsoring us (his parents) in Oct.this year if he has to get another police clearence from uk its going to delay my application for another 6 months or more because they are so slow (police cert) be cause his forms have to be submitted everything on the ball with my application. and he hasent been to GB for the last 4 years and then get another one from Ireland. I give up "its mad carry on. I think i made some error with this post . it seem to be not in the right place. ( It must be the shock of reading this thread)

With this new system there should be a 10-day turnaround instead of 40 days as happened with the old system. Your son would have to allow time for the postal service, of course, (can't remember offhand if there's an online application service) but it's still quicker. If he has a look at the site now and prepares himself, he can figure out the best time to apply.
