Question MEDICALS - Help/ Advice needed

Dear All,

We received our ITA last week and now have to go ahead and book our medicals.
I was just wondering if any of you who have recently had medicals can tell me what they actually consisted of?
Also what do the kids (aged 13 & 6) have to go through?
Has anyone used any of the approved drs local to Yorkshire/ Humberside and if so who would you recommend or suggest we avoid?
Thanks in anticipation!

The first thing you'll need to do is download and print up sufficient copies of the medical form! that will tell you about the general outline of the medical. You may need to arrange for your X-Rays first - we had to have ours done the previous week to the medicals, at a different place - but bring them to the medical. They'll be doing a couple of dipstick tests on a urine sample, plus taking blood for five different tests, then a pretty basic medical: height, weight (to calculate your BMI), waist measurement, blood pressure, resting pulse, listening to your chest (heart, breathing), reflexes, reading chart (with glasses if you wear them), then going through your medical history. That's about it as far as I can recall. It didn't take long.

As far as children are concerned, ours are 15 and 18 (just!), so had the full battery of tests. Other wise:

All applicants including children and newborn babies are required to
undergo a medical examination and have a medical certificate submitted
as part of the application process.
  • Children under 11 are not required to undergo a chest X-ray.
  • Children under 15 are not usually required to undergo the standard
  • blood tests.
  • Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian
  • for the medical examination

Can't help there, I'm afraid.

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got, till it's gone?

Thumbs up

Thanks for your comments MaxG.
I have now printed off everything, had a good read through and feel alot better/ clearer about the whole thing!
Telephoned the nearest INZ approved doctors etc today and they can fit us in as early as next week if we wanted !!!!!:
OH & I need a week or two to detox first, although I feel that it is better to get them out of the way before christmas rather than just after!:

Hi

We had our medicals a couple of months ago, pretty standard, height, weight, BP ..... but you do need to have several blood tests, but not too bad, then there is the X ray ........ 75GBP it cost us for a 2 second job......... but thems the breaks, just bear in mind you need to use their panel doctors and apply for a national police certificate just now, it takes 40 days !!! and with x mas it might be longer, download the form from the web and post off, it costs a tenner each.

Question MEDICALS/ Further advice???

Thanks for comments, medicals/ x-rays now booked for 14/11/07!!!
AAHH, panic, panic!!!
Both OH & I are slightly overweight , but well below the high BMI thing on the medical forms. We are now madly dieting / detoxing etc.

Have I read somewhere on here before that it is a good idea to fast on the morning of the medicals???
