So I suppose Dawn won't want any Mimosas or Bloody Marys during a morning show? More for the rest of us. ...Though a Kiwi morning show would mean an evening (?) show for me - which means I'd be drinking the red wine!

Believe me, few can resist the temptations of my Thanksgiving spreads ... the turkey is the star, to be sure, but the supporting cast is marvelous as well.

Plus, I'll be serving a nice Gew?rztraminer.

As a Northern Man, I used to chuckle at the footie when my northern team used to play southern teams. The southern fans used to sing:

"I go t'pub
I have ten pints
and I get really plastered
Then I go home and beat t'wife
'Cos I'm a northern b@s&#d!"

Of course, the stereotype is totally untrue. Just ask any woman who was ever loved by a Northern Man!!!

Northern vs. southern ... I know there's something there, but I never quite got it.

In on of my favorite movies of all time, 'Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels', Barry the Baptist calls Gary and Dean '@#$%ing northern monkies' and one of them says 'I hate those @#$%ing southern fairies.'

I guess I don't truly appreciate the humor of that part.

BTW, 'Hot Fuzz'? Anyone?

And KH, I am absolutely dying to become acquainted with the supporting cast, Gaz and I and Lauren......and Charlie.....and Poppy.....and Hugo.......and Daisy are just waiting for an invitation

I don't really think all Americees are heathens I am ashamed of my previous accusations spouted in the heat of the moment but I was ceremoniously egged on by Koko and Burgundy 21 - can you ever forgive me? I have seriously reprimanded myself for being so weakly influenced, I have even considered flagellation but Gary loves my back so

As for North versus South - give me a northern git every time, hard talking but loving hands and that works for me youth

I've met lots of Americans, and many of them fit the stereotype, so no worries! I don't take any of it personally. Nothin' wrong with some good funnin'.

In the US, Thanksgiving is November 22nd this year. It's always the fourth Thursday of the month. I specify 'in the US' because Canada also has Thanksgiving, but it's in October, I believe.

I'm not sure what we're going to do for our mock-Thanksgiving, since celebrating it on the traditional day would mean keeping the older boy home from school.

Gew?rztraminer is actually Alsatian in origin, not German, though you can find Gerwurs from Germany, too. (Don't worry, I made that mistake at first, too.) Some consider the ones from NZ to be among the best in the world--kind of like NZ sauvignon blanc. I've had a couple of nice ones here. It's one of my favorites because it pairs well with strongly flavored food, especially spicy foods. I like it for Thanksgiving not because it pairs well with the turkey but because it pairs well with everything else.

I started serving it on Thanksgiving about 5 years ago, when I first discovered it. Since then, it seems to have caught on and last Thanksgiving I had a hard time tracking down a bottle since most of the moderately priced ones were gone. In the end it worked out nicely because it gave me an excuse to drop $25 on a bottle of wine!

I'm not really a fan of chablis myself, but I have to admit I've never had a really fine one. Perhaps a bottle straight from the source would convince me of the error of my ways.

Sorry to prattle on, but I love to talk food and Thanksgiving always brings out the babble!

KH, considering that Thanksgiving is a harvest feast of sorts (a bit late for a proper one, though), you could shift it over into May, and have lots of freshly harvested foods for the table.

The turkey's OK, but essential as drippings donor to the dressing and a meaty base note for cranberry sauce. Yummmm. It's a good thing it's only a month away!

I don't know what's going on with all that North - South rivalry. It's an Eastern thing
