Default No Milk Money in NZ

New Zealand milk up 10% in one month? Do tell.....

Milk prices skyrocketed in July, up 10 per cent, Statistics New Zealand figures show, and other food prices also took a hike.

The worldwide boom in dairy prices, which has boosted New Zealand's export income, played a big part in the 1.2 per cent rise in food prices in July.

Food prices were up 3.4 per cent for the year to July, Statistics NZ said.

Well, I just came back from the market and paid $2.49 for 2L of milk and $1.89 for 500g of butter.

Don't ask what I paid for the chicken, though!

Looking at the news out of the US, a 10% rise in the price of milk seems to be a bargain:

McClatchy Washington Bureau | 08/14/2007 | Prices for key foods are rising sharply

And you gotta love the quote by the boy genius:

Meeting with economic writers last week, President Bush dismissed several polls that show Americans are down on the economy. He expressed surprise that inflation is one of the stated concerns.

"They cite inflation?" Bush asked, adding that, "I happen to believe the war has clouded a lot of people's sense of optimism."
