Brucey, I get the impression that Moggy is a great advocate in making do, self-sufficiency and other admirable attributes in that respect, so I'm sure she might look at your post in a different way to some others, so try not to take it the wrong way. We still appreciate your comments and it's always good to hear different points of views on subjects.

We've had the marmite debate on here a few times haven't we. Personally, I can't stand the stuff nor do we eat any kind of crisps really so looks like we'll be OK!!

Is it right you can't get Galaxy? The kids aren't too happy about that one!

Brucey, it's good to hear about things from different perspectives and toilet rolls don't last 5 minutes in our house as it is. If Hugo was a labrador puppy I might understand it but......? I have a theory that the more bathrooms you have the more toilet rolls you use!

Yes, the NZ version that most resembles UK Marmite is Our Mate not the one that looks like our Marmite and we bought it while downunder last time. To our palates, it was fine. Didn't notice any difference. It's a good source of Vitamin B, Dawn, not that that will entice you to try it . I wonder if some people spread it on too thickly as I could understand how that would put people off. It's quite bitter then. You only need a very thin smear. While we're on the subject, has anyone seen a new jar on the market. It sprang up here a couple of weeks ago in a strange sloping plastic jar that sits upside down on its lid. Has a similar Marmite label on it but it's called Marmat or something similar and stood alongside the Marmite. I wonder what that's all about?

Dawn, even if they do have Galaxy in NZ, it may not taste the same as in the UK. I've heard similar comments about the Cadbury's down there being different in taste to the UK one.

As I've always said the one thing I miss is my Haggis so when I go back in a few days time I'm gonna stock up on the tinned stuff from the Tourist Shops in Edinburgh as it's quite tasty

Other than that I dont really miss much.

I did at first but that's cos everything was different from what you're used to back 'home' but now we've slowly gotten used to it and it's become the norm.

It does take a few months tho to adapt to things here but that's just the way change goes I think.

Oh with regads to the chocolate, it does taste different from the UK Cadburys but again you get used to it. I now love Whittakers Kiwi flavoured chocolate mm mm.

So, what do kiwis taste like, then? Can't say I've ever tasted anything kiwi-flavoured before.

Yes we are into the self sufficiency thing, but that was not what prompted my comments. I was genuinly surprised that someone with so much determination to move to the other side of the world could be so concerned with 6 months supply of whatever (which is available here anyway)
.
But as always each to their own, it doesnt make it right, but it doesnt make it wrong

Hi Brucey, I... no WE definitely concur on the loo rolls for Gee's sake... they're puny... where's the lovely sodt quilted ones??? Ha ha
I still haven't found crisps as nice as Walkers but we do occasionally buy some for high cost at the British shops.
Sarsons vinegar!! The vinegar here is weak and tasteless but again we can buy that at the British shop for a much higher price than back in England.
Bisto Gravy Granules!! (Unless Eddie makes his own when cooking steaks!)... we get that sent occasionally or buy at that dear shop, ha.
The meat and veg here makes up for all the other shortfalls though ;-)
Cadbury's choc is not as nice here, you kinda feel short changed after you've eaten a bar!
I haven't seen Galaxy here actually Dawn :-(
We wouldn't bother bringing any white goods to NZ as there are good re-conditioned ones here for a decent price if you look HARD!! That was the hard part.
Good point on the gardening tools etc and kids' bikes etc.
Dawn... bring loads of undies too dear!! (M&S) will be missed, ha!!
And clothes are pretty bad quality here for the money. I don't buy any of them, luckily my mum sends lots of clothes for the kids and I've yet to slim down into mine since gaining that 'immigrating weight'...!

Thanks for that bit of advice ... I spent the better part of 2 hours scrubbing all my garden tools with a brush and soap, then sprayed them with WD40. They all look fairly new now and I'm happy to have that much less to buy when I get there!
