well Ali if your oh future employer says he dont need registation then its a safe bet he dont ,would they, or do you have anything in writing to say that.if so buzz that off to NZ house.
Theres a good chance the electrical work may be signed off by one person for the whole company and that man could be the only one needing to register ,this seems to happen in for example lift companys.
Good luck hope all goes smooth for you

Thanks Johnty, we are waiting for the information/letter (or whatever it is he is going to send us) from OH employer, hopefully we will get it early next week and then will email it onto immigration. We phoned our case officer today and told what was going on and she said that is fine and will wait to receive this info before making a decision whether to give the visas or return the applications pending a registration letter

We are crossing everything we can think of but are realistic to the fact she could still say we need registration in which case we will be looking at about 3 months before we could possibly be getting visas, so are looking around for places to rent just in case

Oh well, these things are sent to try us and they certainly do

We are still waiting to hear at the moment

We sent the letter and information supplied by OH employer to immigration and she contacted EWRB who said they would need a full job description before they could say for definate so that was sent by employer last week and now is a case of waiting to hear, but I think we are both feeling pretty certain from the vibes we've had so far that we will have to go the registration route Has been going on for a while now and we move out the house Friday but still can't make definate arrangements until we get the yay or nay, dont want to sign up for a rented flat and then find we can go after all

Leading onto another quick question, does anyone know how strict immigration are about medical dates, as we estimate that by time we get the details back from EWRB that our medicals will be just over 3 months old so will it mean we have to get them done again or do they give a bit of leeway at all? It would be nice but again are not holding our breath that they would

If you've already submitted your medicals, I'd hope you'd be OK. Once they are in the clutches of NZIS, the clock normally stops ticking. I'd pray that this mucking about with registration wouldn't upset the applecart because it's down to you rather than NZIS holding things up.

Ahh didn't know that, medicals are submitted so fingers crossed we wont have to do them again!!! But like you say MB lets hope they dont get funny because of the delay, it is a genuine misunderstanding as OH employer seems so adamant that he doesnt need registration and seems down to immigration not accepting all the documentation provided (which did seem to explain everything very clearly stating from regulations etc)

Just had a thought .... and yes it hurt!!!

But as we will have to re apply for our visas do you think that the medical clock will stop ticking or will it start again and new medicals be required if after the 3 months?

we had a bit of a scare when we checked our status on the NZIS web pages .we had submitted the ITA with all the medicals and waited ages to hear back then when we checked to see if there had been any progress and our medical status read expired so we thought we would be forking out for 4 more medicals ,but a week or so later we got an email saying that we now had a case officer and on checking online again they had moved our meds date foward and removed the expired tag so all was good .

All sorted :

EWRB where saying OH should be registered to be sure but based on communication with OH employer our case officer was happy to approve visas based on the fact OH will only be doing low voltage work and if he starts to do higher voltage he has to arrange registration then which is what the plan had been all along with OH employer
