My God, they're coming out of the woodwork! So many super-fit members. I take my hat off to you - if I had one.

Pity about the kayaking - would be good to hear how you all got on. Looks like a bit of a stumbling block.

Taffy, now we need a MTNZ gym on here so we can all work out and catch up with this lot. They're putting us to shame. Where can we install it?

Hmm, depends on the demand... I know Taffy wouldn't use it, but you should see the muscles in his mouse finger

Mind you, it's about as close to exercising as I would get, so maybe it would be a good thing

I've never heard it called that before...

I have to readily admit that I am in the same boat as you MB, Taffy and Welshgirl...who has the time or is that energy?? I used to be fit before I had my son, now I just can't find the time to get to the gym anymore. However, lifting a 33lb son up and down constantly and running around after him often feels a bit like I'm a gerbil on one of those wheels... He's not even two yet, God help me when he's bigger...he'll have to start lifting me!

Whats the saying about it not being the mouth it comes out of, but the mind it goes in to?

Hi Lou,

Quote:
does anyone know of any other similar events (running, cycling or swimming etc) that will be going on next year
There's usually something going on every weekend. Check out the calendar and forum on this website for ideas - Sportzhub

My first experience in the kayak went reasonably well and I managed to stay upright. Getting in and out was especially tricky and I came perilously close to falling in before I'd got in (if that makes sense!?!). I have a horrible feeling that kayaking is addictive...... I had a fantastic dream last night in which I won the Coast2Coast, grabbed gold in the white water slalom at the Olympics and paddled across the Cooke Straight in world record time. No sign of a Dave though :)

Grade 2 courses take between 3 and 5 days and cost anything from $300 to$800 depending on who you go with and whether or not you need to hire a boat. There are loads of providers, so shop around. It's getting too cold now, so not many courses are available at the moment. They start again in October. You wouldn't want to swim the kayak part of the Coast 2 Coast as it's very cold, very shallow and very bumpy (apparently).

I really don't like water! Well I do...it's a kind of paradox. I am a water sign - cancer. I am drawn to water. I love to look at it, watch it, touch it, it inspires me, moves me, motivates me BUT I don't want to go on a cruise, I don't want to swim out as deep as when the bottom disappears, the thought of being upside down with my bottom half stuck in a kayak turns me OFF!
Sorry guys, either I have to do a double and the other one takes the kayaking or I'm shafted
