Default Once I get a PR in skilled migrant category..

Hi there. I have been helped here previously and thank you.

Once I get a PR in skilled migrant category, can I visit my country for more than 2 weeks? I heard that in first 2 years you can't go out of NZ for more than 2 weeks after you get a PR?

Hi daisukey and welcome back to the forum

Once you have your PR, for the next 2 years, you must spend at least 1 year in NZ to retain your PR, of which 6 months should be spent in NZ in the first year and 6 months in the second year, i.e. you cannot get PR, leave NZ for one year and come back for the second year. Hope that makes sense!

It will be fine, under those circumstances, to go back to your home country for 2 weeks :023:

Thanks Welshgirl. So that means that I can go home for ie: 3 months? Just to make sure.. :p

What's the circumstances like when sending out an EOI? How long does it usually take for them to get back to me?

Yes, it should be fine for you to go home for 3 months :icon_biggrin:

How long they will take to get back to you about your EOI is anybody's guess - could be days, could be months. Sorry I can't be more specific than that but it really depends on your circumstances and your case officer, and the rest is up to luck! I think there's a thread around somewhere about this subject, I'll try and dig it out for you, or you can use the search function and have a look yourself.

Best of luck :023:

Hi Daisukey,

As Welshgirl says, you should have no problem going home for 3 months. It's just that you mustn't stay out of NZ for more than 6 months in each year until you get your Indefinite Returning Residents' Visa (IRRV) and it will be 2 years before you can apply for that.

It is very difficult to say how long it would be before you would hear about your EOI. If NZIS feel that they want to get you to NZ as quickly as possible, perhaps if you have a job to go to or you have particular skills that are important to the country, you may be rushed through. Otherwise it can depend on how many points you have, which branch of NZIS you are dealing with and how busy they are at the time.

If you are applying online, I believe there may be something where you can look at the status of your application. It should change as they are proceeding with your file.
