I agree the Edinburgh one was not that great, especially after having been to the London one which is absolutely massive and has stalls from nearly every region, recruitment agencies, a lot more companies, banks and so on so if you can get down to it well worth having a look. Speaking to the guys from the Fitzroy Engineering/Yachts stand they said that this was the first Edinburgh expo and they where just doing it to see if it got the interest so not as many companies registered to show at it, the next expos in October (I think) aren't showing an Edinburgh one so I perhaps they can't get enough companies showing to warrant doing another there

Yes we aim to find a house in NP, or maybe one of the smaller communities just outside (Oakura or Inglewood sound lovely), I look at houses daily on Open2View.com to daydream about when we are finally over there, we just need to find out about which are the nicer areas and which have the better schools, as a very nice person I have been in contact with regards to banking has informed me that a lot of the schools in the NP area are now zoned so you have to live in the right area for the right school etc. We have a 7 year old son who is just in his last term of year 2 here in the UK so by time we get to head out should be near to finishing his full school year here and then once we can get a school and house sorted in NP he will be able to have some time at his new school to settle into it before NZ summer holiday comes around .... at least that is my thinking anyway hehe

I will certainly keep in touch and updated, and will keep fingers crossed for you that things start to happen soon.

I imagined London would be big. We are hoping not to be here in October anyway.

How is your son about moving accross the world- I bet 7 is a hard age. Our girls probably won't know any different- Jessica may a little but I think she will settle down fine.

Where do you live in the UK? We are in Lancashire, about half an hour away from Manchester.

We will have to meet up if we ever get to NP, always good to have someone who knows what you've been through. I think most of the schools in NP have good reports so i'm sure wherever you end up it'll be fine. We would like to be near to the beach- prefferably walking distance but i'm sure anywhere is nice.

I know what you mean about looking at houses- I have been doing it for the last six months really- although now I have a specific area to look at. Hubby keeps joking about it saying I have already decided where all my furniture is going etc.

Neil has just got a contact in NP who is interested in contacting him so we will see if anything comes of that- sounds quite promising but don't want to get hopes up too soon. He is in IT/Project Management. we haven't heard from Fitzroy since he filed out a couple of forms for them about 3 weeks ago.

Anyway, bye for now.

Beth

Fingers crossed for you not being here in october

We live in Bournemouth down on the southcoast.

Jacob has surprised me I must admit, when we first talked to him about it he understandably got very upset at the thought of leaving his friends/cousins but since he got used to the idea he has become really excited about it, that said though I think when the time comes and it hits him that we are actually going I think he will be quite emotional, likewise here as I am really close to my family and there will be lots of tears

We will certainly have to keep in contact and when you get across hopefully we will have more of an idea of the area and places to live etc so will be able to give you lots of information

I don't live in NP, or even been there, but I find the Statistics website rather interesting.

For Inglewood - Inglewood Urban Area Community Profile(published)

For Oakura - Oakura Community Profile(published)

Just by reading those statistics, they show that in Inglewood 40% of kids leave school without any qualification at all whilst in Oakura that is 20% with 42% going onto further education. Maybe these statistics are not entirely the story, but I know where I would aim for!!!

Hi all,
I am going down to New Plymouth next Tuesday to meet with the council and economic development people to talk about how we can make jobs in the area available to skilled migrants from the UK. I know the guy who runs engineering taranaki (Fitzroy are part of this group) and will be chatting with him as well. If anyone wants to give a CV or would like some contacts in the region I can pass your details on. Just send me a PM.

Paul
