Smile Best exchange rates- help

greeting people

The exchange rate is steadily dropping against last time I bought at 3.02.
The best at present I see is HIFX at $2.83 ug!
Mind you I still get $2.84 from Nationwide using my ATM card.
Any idea's of best deals

thanks

Hi Macfod,

Not any more it isn't! HIFX is now at 2.72164

I'd give World First a try, slightly higher at 2.7243 - http://www.worldfirst.com/nz/ - Phone 07 825 5222 and speak to Ailsa. I know her and know she will look after you well.

Currency is such a difficult one to judge. Thats pretty low for the NZ Dollar, but I've also seen it much lower. Unless something major happens, commercially or politically, it's not going to change significantly in the next few days.

Certainly a gamble though, hard to tell if it will about face or maintain it's steady descent.

Hi Macfod,
with exchange rates it really does depend on your needs. If you need the money now then you don't have much choice. If you can afford to wait then you take the gamble. Exchanging your money isn't the only aspect of your financial future here and what you lose with one hand you may gain somewhere else (like you said property is still going up) Have you been back in touch with World First again. I used these guys and they were excellent explain the dilema and they may try and beat Hi FX.

Sorry, Mark, doesn't look like there's going to be much change in the short term, for the better, anyway.

NZ dollar tops US74c for first time in two years
Updated 2:02PM Monday April 16, 2007

The New Zealand dollar has topped US74c for the first time in two years and seems headed for a post-float high, with economists predicting even higher levels ahead.

The kiwi crossed through the US74c level shortly after 10am today and by 10.30am was around US74.10c, a cent higher than its level of Friday morning.

The last time the NZ currency was this high against its US counterpart was in March 2005, 20 years after the kiwi was floated in March 1985.

That time it got to US74.63c, its highest level in 23 years.

The NZ dollar has also performed strongly against the Japanese yen, hitting its highest point against the Japanese currency since 1990, and around 10.30am was above 88.60 yen to the kiwi.

On Friday the kiwi was boosted by stronger than expected retail sales data, and since has received further backing from a communique released after a meeting of the Group of Seven countries.
