Default Kiwi Ora

For those of you who have recently arrived in New Zealand, you might be interested to know of a course that I am doing, which is free and available to anyone with PR. It is basically a new immigrants course, which lasts up to a year and is done from home. You actually enrol as a student of Te Wananga a Aoteaoroa and, upon successful completion of 4 simple assessments, you get a recognised qualification - an NZQA. You receive 4 'packs' during the year (one upon enrolment and one after each assessment is completed), which contain literature and information on everything you could need to know as a new immigrant - banking & finance, healthcare, schooling, Maori history, etc etc.

As I said, it is completely free and without any catches, and you get one on one help (if required) from a qualified tutor.

If anyone is interested in finding out more, have a look a this website - http://www.kiwi-ora.com - or send me a PM and I'll give you some more info and a contact name/number.

Cheers

Closure of Kiwi Ora will cost 62 jobs

9.00am Wednesday October 25, 2006

Sixty-two people will lose their jobs at Te Wananga o Aotearoa as it shuts down its Kiwi Ora programme because of a lack of funding.

The Herald understands Susan Cullen, director of Ora Ltd and daughter of former wananga chief executive Rongo Wetere, told staff of redundancies yesterday.

The programme has been subcontracted to the wananga (university) for the past four years.

The home-based Kiwi Ora was targeted at migrants wanting to learn more about New Zealand and has helped more than 30,000 students.
