This is probably a daft question and I havent looked at websites yet but do the flights get cheaper as to what time of year it is? Are they included in the outrageous price rises in the school holidays?

Yes, flights vary hugely depending on what time of year you travel. It will be cheaper to travel in NZ winter time. School holidays make the price vary even hugelier hehe.

Also it can be cheaper if you book well ahead, as prices sometimes rise as the plane fills up and, no it's not a dumb question.

I think tickets are released for bookings about 11 months before the flight. Some companies immediately purchase these tickets cheaply in bulk and pass a considerable saving to the quick customer. These tickets probably can be bought online, but we went to a travel agency and did it with them ... the saving over a later booked ticket was around GBP2,000 for the six of us.

To get a good summer deal, plan a flight before 8th December. Keep away from school holiday periods - in NZ as well as UK. The Easter period is also expensive. We found flying to a NZ winter can be more expensive during July and August (probably because of the UK school holidays) and after several days of comparing prices, found it cheaper to go late June.

Unfortunatley we will have to go during the school holidays for the first trip as we have a 13 year old and dont really want to take her out of school, will have to have a look at the school holiday timetable. Thanks for the great advice.

Hi KC,

We just booked our tix for NZ a few weeks ago and fly out on Wednesday.

We shopped around for our tix and we found Airline Network to be the cheapest by far.

We've used them a few times for other countires and bought our NZ tix off them last year and they were still the cheapest, also very good customer service.
