Default Family Hotel in Auckland?

Can anyone recommend a reasonable (quality and price) family hotel in Auckland as a suitable first base after arriving in-country? Looking to stay a week or so while our campervan clears MAFF and the LTSA bit.....

No personal recommendations I'm afraid, but something for you to browse through until someone else comes up with an idea.

City Rentals . A selection of apartments.
BKs Pioneer Motel Heard this one being recommended although it?s close to the airport. Free pick-up from there.
Centra Airport Hotel 5 mins. from airport.
Jasons if you want to research for yourself.
Motor Assoc. of NZ approved motels. Might be a bit more expensive, but should be good.
Howick Motor Lodge .
Serviced apartments . Expensive

Hi

We have got our first 3 nights booked at Grange Motel Manukau. Dont know if this is right area for you, are you flying in?

Their website is www.manukauaccommodation.co.nz

I think someone on this forum recommended it to us, I phoned to confirm the booking....and was on the phone for half and hour. Bernie could talk a glass eye to sleep.

the are famed for their hot muffins on arrival....read the feed back.

Rates for a 2 bedroom unit is $130 a night, which i didnt think was too bad.

Give them a look up, it may be what you are looking for.

cheers

Nick

Hi,

We stayed in Aspen House on our last few days in AKL last year, it was nice, clean and spacious. Slightly noisey as you're slap bang in the middle of the city but it was nice and easy to get to.

You can either get the bus from the aiport which is about 30-40mins as it's one of the last stops but it does stop right outside the B&B or you could get a cab which would be about 10mins I'd imagine, not too sure how much that would be tho.

Good luck at finding somewhere!

We met up with my wifes sister & hubby in Auckland, they stayed at Aspen House. It seemed great for a couple - not sure it would suit a family though. It was very clean & well organised too.

If you have the name of a hotel and want to check up on it, you can look on Trip Advisor which is a site for everyday folk to write about their experiences whilst visiting hotels around the world. Doesn't cover all hotels as it's only as good as the people who've visited and posted on there, but is still very informative. Probably won't cover very small hotels. Quite up to date as well.

Thanks for your help to those who replied. I sent emails to five or six places and have booked a homestay overlooking the harbour. I was especially impressed that all of the owners replied to my enquiries. Even more so that those who were fully booked offered to put me in touch with friends or neighbouring hotels. The countdown's on..... 15 weeks to go! :icon_biggrin:
