Dare I ask...the World Cup

Ok, for all you people already in NZ...tell me something...how have you found watching the World Cup in NZ with the time differences? Whats the atmosphere been like in the pubs? Are they all as into it as we are?

Hubby and I are big footy fans (well OK he is and it was a case if I cant beat 'em join them and so became a footy fan) and are worried how we're going to catch the matches when we're over there.

I really dont fancy getting up at 7am or even 3am and watching matches next season...

Seriously, Sky Sport shows some matches, live, sometimes in the middle of the night. Alternatively, you might catch the scores on the breakfast news.

There are one or two 'British character' pubs about that may be into the World Cup atmosphere. For 'real' sporty atmosphere here you will have to get into rugby.

All the matches are shown at night on SS1 and SS3 normally. They're also repeated from 9am on the same channels. Highlights are in the afternoon on TV1 or Later on again on SS1 about 8.30 I think.

I went to a big sports bar in Palmerston North to watch the England game, there were about 6 of us watching out of a pub full and hill billy and glam rock music was favoured over the commentary. Not too good huh.

Most Motels may have SS1 but they don't have SS3 anywhere in motels etc so that's a pain.

Oh dont know how Stu's going to survive that!!

I know he's trying to get into Rugby now as he knows there's gonna be a drowt of matches in NZ but I just cant get into Rugby.

I've only started understanding the rules in footy over the past few years :icon_biggrin:
