we took the kids to the circus on Friday night..

we took our seats right at the back so we had a decent view and as we were getting settled a family of four came and sat right in front of us..

just as we were thinking, bloody tosspots.. the bloke turns round..
eyes us all up and down and re-arranges HIS family so that our kids could see..

after saying thanks..
we just looked at each other and exchanged that look that says..
"boy did we do the right thing coming here.."

it's an oft' used look these days..

Are you sure you?re going to be able to cope with all this niceness Natty, not being used to it and all that?

It?ll be very interesting to hear what you have to say when you make a future trip back to the UK and see what you?ve left behind. Have you moved into your rental yet?

Can only spend a couple of minutes sitting up at the PC as I've injured my back. Folks around here have been great ... taking me to the doctors, getting shopping for me, baking cakes, offering to help with washing etc. I do have good kids who do help with most things, but the people here are really great. Just wish I knew how to repay them.

Hope your back is on the mend soon, Glenda. We?re both in the same boat at the moment as mine has decided to throw a tantrum as well.

As for your kind neighbours, I?m sure your words of appreciation will be enough for them. If they are as genuinely helpful as they sound, they won?t be looking for a reward for their efforts. There may come a time in the future when you can repay their kindness in a natural way.

They are a thoughtful lot!

I had a moan at work the other day to my assistant principal. Today in the staff room fridge was a parcel of homemade chocolate fudge with a label saying 'To Claire Have a lovely Day'. They were off her to cheer me up!

I've even been given a day off work the day hubby arrives.In England, I would have had had to beg steal and borrow time before I asked, just to prove that I deserved it!

a similar thing happened to my wife at work.
The hospital were owe us money for part of our flights out here.,.
we'd given them the tickets and receipts etc but the money was taking it's time..

sylvie was talking about it in the staff room one day and within an hour one couple were on the door step with $200 and another offer of a loan had been turned down..

we didn't desperately need the money either.. the things is.. the couple that turned up with the money!?? From Salisbury.

So not all Brits are whingeing miserable scheming boring bigotted fools..

The kiwi spirit must be rubbing off. They sound like they could set a good example to us all on human relations. People of the world unite!

The main reason my parents want to move is because they want to grow old in a place with a good community spirit, where people tend to take more interest in one another. In other words, somewhere where an old person can't die and their body go unnoticed for weeks, as sometimes happens in many parts of the UK. :icon_eek:

It could happen in NZ, too, Tottefan, as you probably know. But I'll bet the neighbors will be friendly enough that if your folks make even a small effort, they'll have lots of people looking out for them.

Well obviously people only respond to people who make an effort. My parents are both pretty outgoing people so I think that a little effort is likely to go further in NZ.
