Default Me going to find a job - wish me luck!

Sounds like the thing to do Pulsarblu and I really do believe that life favours risk-takers. Having the courage to take something on that scares the pants off you is what life is all about! You'll succeed because you can't fail.

All the best - next thing we know you'll be posting about what a fantastic place it is and how you've found a job and how you wish you'd done it sooner and all that.....keeping us all bouyed up with your positive experiences.

Buckle up :038:

8-) Good luck from me too Pulsarblu.

I'm sure face to face will reap rewards, they must get e-mails by the dozen so being there in person will really help.

A belated wish of luck from me, too. We shall probably need to do the same.

Default Me going to find a job - wish me luck!

dear friends,

I have reached Welly since monday 08 may. I am having a great time so far and I will give an update to everyone here given my limited Internet usage time at the hostel (30mins).

I am staying at the Rosemere backpackers at dixon street and boy, it is really tough to get up the hostel as it is situated on a small but steep hill. I thought I can cycle around on my foldable bike but I think I need to get used to the traffic conditions here and tackle first Welly's hills by foot before venturing on bicycle. The people are nice and the hostel is generally ok, I had a single room to myself so I can sleep better at night without the commotion associated with hostels. Occasionally, there are still bangs and shouts at night that woke me but other than that, everything with the hostel is good. The weather in Welly is a cool 15plus during the day and maybe 10 or so during the night and early morning.

My job hunting is going on fine and I have interviews scheduled over this week (2 per day) and I am determined to secure something before next week. I am learning the way Kiwis interview and how to present my CV to interested employers. Everything is a learning process and I am enjoying every minute of it.

I have tour around the city and so far I like this place very much, it is compact which means I can get around on foot, well, not to mention tackling those 'gentle' hills. The people here are nice, food is good, view is fantastic and I feel good overall.

I am confident that I can settle well into Welly. Ok, folks, I am close to my 30 mins and I will try to provide an update soon and very soon I will have good news to share about my job hunt.

In the mean time, take care!

Glad to hear all is well with you and that you like the city so much, as were going there as well.

Maybe you can post some helpful hints for the kiwi style interview process.

Keep us updated!

sincerely,
Brian & April

Default Me going to find a job - wish me luck!

hi All,

I am back in Singapore, just returned last night. This trip has been very successful although I did not secure a job offer. There was one position which I almost got it but after the third interview, the employer decided not to offer me the job. Well, I was not exactly upset but actually reliefed. I think that job is not entirely suitable for me. Well for the other interviews, I did not hear back from them after the first session. The main reason was that the 'first' interview was with the recruitment agencies and progessing further will need more time. Since I was only in Wellington for two weeks, time is not a luxury for me.

However, I have gained a lot from this trip. I met new friends from my Buddhist association (Soka Gakkai New Zealand), surveyed the entire Wellington city, tackled the hills, explored so many cafes, tasted the food, talked to the locals, being able to tell the street names at night and oriented myself easily. I think I have gained a lot!

So I bid temporary farewell to my friends in Wellington on Thursday, boarded an overnight coach to Auckland. While on the coach, I chatted with a nice lady from Wellington. We spoke about jobs, leisure, politics and many other things.

I will be back for good in New Zealand in August, I will resign from my job and move myself there. I realised that two weeks is just too short to find something.

All the best for the rest still trying!
