Default coming for six months

Hi all as you may have guessed there is yet another new person on here!!!

Yippee do I hear you call?

Probably not cos you get fed up no doubt of all our annoying questions lol!!!

Well anyway (big deep breath!!) here goes....................

my parents bought a property in the northlands moerewa about 18 months ago they're not residents and don't intend to be but use this as a holiday home, they are coming back to nz in august for their 6 month holiday and have asked my husband and myself and my 2 boys 8 and 3 to come too for the 6 months........... now i know that we are not allowed to do a working holiday visa as we're too old (we're both 32) and have children but i wondered if there was anyway we could work whilst we are there cos 6 months is a long time especially when you're sharing a home with your parents, any ideas or help would be much appreciated!!!

thanks in anticipation justme x x :icon_lol:

Hi Justme,

[smilie=welcome.gif]

This is a link to an article I took from a NZ newspaper a while back, which seems to imply that it?s not allowed to work on a visit visa.

Quite a lot of people who can?t get to stay in NZ any other way do go on visit visas and look for work when they arrive. Once they have a job offer, they then get a Work Permit, which allows them to work legally. I'm not sure if there's any other way around this in your case.

thankyou very much for that!!

i did know that we couldn't work on a visitors visa and we didn't want to do anything illegal, which is why i asked.

so basically if we did find a job that we may want to do and got offered a position we could work as long as we applied for a work/visa permit whilst we are there.........????????

Pretty much. The problem you may have however is finding a skilled job. I have a feeling they will only issue a work visa if you are doing a 'skilled' job. The reasoning being (I assume) that you won't be taking a kiwis job for 6 months forcing them to claim state benefits. If it was skilled tho, you would be doing a favour to the economy filling a gap that may not have been filled by a kiwi, as they don't have the skill pool in NZ.

Sorry rather long winded way of saying, it's a bit tricky in reality.

I've heard of temporary work visas tho, maybe that something to do with the WHV tho. Perhaps someone will ellaborate.

ooo crikey its sunday and i've only just got back in here!!!!

BUSY BUSY BUSY!!!!

thnks very much to you both .... hubby is a ceramic tiler by trade but here we don't have certs/qualificaion or anything to prove that you can actually do it do we. have heard that there is a shortage of tilers but as we're going to be in a quite villagey area we don't know if there is going to be much of a "need" for that kind of thing..........s'pose we'll just have to wait and see!!!

i did see on the nz gov site about a temporary work visa/permit but i think that that is more of a wait and see scenario too!!!

cheers again justme xx :icon_biggrin:

Can't say I saw that as rude. Think you have to be a filthy minded midlander to see that as an innuendo.

hehe only joking I was born in Northampton, then lived in Towcester from the first few years of my life.
