Default Grey Days

Sorry guys, wasn't having a go at Tottefan, just feelin a bit frustrated myself as we are sooooo ready to go and can't do anything about it for what seems eons, and light years :009: Wish i were Captain Jean Luc Piccard with an Enterprise to order shifted to warp speed 9......or would that shake loose the Belagonian crystals from their super crion platinum based petals, upsetting the lube equalibrium and sending the ship into a terminal velocity praxes of negativity?? :icon_wink: Might find ourselves navigating a wormhole of considerable magnitude - be exciting wouldn't it?

Cor...i feel much better now! :icon_lol:

Anyway the suns out today :icon_mrgreen:

Glenda I noticed in your diary that you mentioned the cold mornings several times. Must admit made me a bit hummmmppphhh. But... the best I can get from it is ...the house we live in now is 200 years old, has no double glazing and the windows still sometimes frost up on the inside even though we do have central heating. Mind you the house is so draughty we can't afford to run it for long, most of the heat goes through the roof or the badly fitting doors, we still have blankets on the beds over the quilts and do that thing of having to count to ten to work yourself up to daring to get out of bed in the morning to go to the loo coz its so cold!!!

Was hoping to leave all that behind in NZ but hey.....we'll just have to develop even thicker skins....once again avoid informing 15 year old daughter who thinks the sun ever shineth and is warmeth

Once again, sorry Tottefan if you thought I was having a go, my grey day mood was raging :icon_redface: Please accept my apologies [smilie=white flag.gif]

Don't worry about it - it was my fault anyway. I'm afraid I don't always pay attention to what I'm writing. :icon_confused:

Gee whizz, Dawn, wouldn't have put you down as a scifi geek! :icon_wink: :icon_wink: :icon_wink:

We know that frustration ... I wanted to move out last February but had to wait until June because hubby thought the exchange rate would get better (it didn't). :icon_sad: With no good escapist Star Trekking progammes on the box, I did something totally 'random' and bought the whole five series of Babylon 5 on eBay, along with five Babylon 5 films ... some 60 tapes. :icon_eek: Had watched a few odd episodes of the programme in the 1990's but missed so many that I couldn't follow the storyline. It was great - we were hooked - and made the waiting more bearable.

Sounds like you will be OK with the worst weather NZ can offer(!) I remember well the ice on the windows, going to bed with woolly hats on, and dehydrating oneself so one did not have to go outside to the outside toilet in the night which seemed to be always infested with spiders, woodlice and slugs. You are not disguising the truth to your daughter - it really isn't as cold here as the UK, even down south.

You gotta remember a lot of the houses aren't insulated and don't have central heating so it's gonna be colder even if outside isn't as cold. Trick is to get your house insulated when you get over here and buy one. More and more and being built with this in mind now tho and it's only a matter of time before building regulations (as in England) catch up across NZ as it has in much of the west, forcing the issue of energy efficiency etc.

Yey at last a subject I can speak confidently about amongst all the wine, boats, ITAs, EOIs etc.

Insulation...it's what I do... :icon_redface: :icon_sad:

I'm not!! I made it all up!! Watched a few episodes but only for the childrens sake you understand... :icon_wink: The original 70's episodes were the best though weren't they with William Shatner and Spock and Scotty and Bones!! 'It's life Jim but not as we know it'

Ahhhhh the 70's, now there was an era.....I'm going to go away and think about what else I can remember about growing up in the 70's and then come back and tell y'all.

Hold on to y pants guys!!! :icon_eek:

I'm a scifi geek, too, Glenda. We're working our way through our Bab5 DVDs, which is so much better than fast-forwarding through commercials. Have you tried the new Battlestar Galactica yet? It's far different from the campy, cheesy original; more of a drama in space. How about Farscape? The New Dr. Who has finally made it's way to the US, and we're hooked.

...Dawn, the original Star Trek was from the 60s (1966-68). But the early 70s were rather like the late 60s, so the mistake was minor enough. My favorite was Deep Space Nine - a bit more gritty than the others. But my favorite Enterprise captain is Piccard.

...Talk about way off topic - but fun.

Yes, selchie, a bit off topic! [smilie=titter.gif] Though, I did say the escapism it provided did ease our emigration frustrations; so not too off topic. :icon_wink:

We've still got our Bab5 tapes and may plough through them again during the winter months. Good series ... a bit slow at first, and a little disjointed towards the end when they couldn't work out whether to have four or five seasons. However, we found Crusade to be crap.

We've got the first season of Battlestar Galactica showing here at the moment, but there is not (at the moment) the build up and excitement of Bab5 or the entertainment of the Star Treks. I like Enterprise best, though Jean Luc, like you, is the favourite captain. Must say that I think William Shatner fits comedy very well (Boston Legal for example). Dr Who? Well, IMO that is a different, but entertaining form of sci-fic, and the kids love it.

Ah well, they say nothing lasts forever. They should bring out a 'For as long as it lasts' ring or an 'Indeterminate time' ring or an 'Enjoy it while it lasts' ring. [img:fb0484cadc]http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_200.gif[/img:fb0484cadc]
