Can anyone help me with this? I was talking with some acquaintances yesterday and they said that my ex-husband will no longer have any obligation to pay his child maintenance when we move to NZ. Is that right?

Hmm I've heard that too I must admit.

Kind of logical if you think you're not protected by british law anymore and NZ government/legal system aren't about to start taking responsibility for immigrants relationships abroad.

Sad but true I'm afraid.

We'll miss tax credit payments and such also. Gonna be flat broke unless I can land the perfect job.

oh well, would have helped but hopefully he'll still take the responsibility of putting it away for them here. He always thought his money was helping to fund our lifestyle anyway not supporting his kids, so an opportunity for him to prove his committment i think.

we'll miss those tax credits too stevey, our monthly income is becoming more and more depleted the more i talk to you lot :icon_frown:

Dawn

Try this link, it should let you know about the equivalent of working families tax credit & child allowance etc. For us it works out about the same allowances as here;

Working for Families Tax Credits - the new name for family assistance

Hope its of some help & comfort.

Cheers

Nick

I thought it was for 2 years after PR. I know something's changing in April of this year and I'm sure I put some link on here about it a while ago. I'll try and see if I can find it again. Perhaps I just emailed it to Taffy, but I'll check.

Stevey

My brother got something through after 2 years - about the same time as they lifted the restrictions of how much to could travel in & out of NZ and how many days per year he had to live & work there.

Stevey cant you just paste the link into your browser?

According to the on line calculator we would be eligable for $180.

Was smiling when I read your first post Nick, then you had to spoil it all by adding the 2 years bit!! They have their reasons I suppose but it will be tight for us for the first few years I'm sure.

Never mind

hehe I was attention seeking mate, cos I raised the tac credit subject and you were like 'Dawn try this link' was only messing tho I didn't take it personally honest.

IS that 180 p/week or month?

We get like ?260 p/m at the mo so it will be a big slice. Still, after the way they shafted us last year setting our finances back about 3 years, I think I'll be telling them I've left the country when I have PR and not before.
