New NZ Chat Room Poll

I voted yes because I like the "immediate" response of chatrooms but given the spread of our members around the world with different timezones, I would say no and stick to the forum.

Although great for post count, the 'banter' of one word posts in forums would probably be better placed in the Chat Room.

However that's not to say I would rush in there and chat for hours everytime someone was in there. I often have the forum running in the background whilst doing other stuff.

I would definately use a chat room, but they need to be well moderated. One of the other NZ sites had a busy chat room - but it was full of idiots slagging off all & sundry and generally looking for a cyber-punchup! Thats all well and good in the right situation - but I feel that the ethos here is for construction advice, support and light hearted banter.

But yes, go for it taffy - get it going

My jury's still out on this one. Never having used a Chat Room, I'm not sure what to expect. I'll hover back here, waiting to see what the outcome is from everyone else. If the decision is to go for it, I may venture in if I feel brave enough, but at least, if I don't like it and decide to pull out, I can't be battered for having voted 'Yes'. Perhaps someone can explain to me how a Chat Room works so, at least, I'll be prepared.

You type, press enter, your name and what you just tyoed comes up on screen, I type...the same happens underneath instantly.We are now chatting, it's great.

With the close knit group we are, I doubt if there's gonna be any cyber fights or anything, on a forum based chat room it should rarely be an issue. I appreciate some sites have there fair share of idiots but have faith in our clientelle :icon_biggrin:

personally, I like to ponder on things prior to opening my mouth, so the Chat Room format is probably a negatory.
Although, having said that, I don't have any experience of Chat Rooms.

This is just how I'm feeling. I might venture in if enough people were in there to get the conversation going, but I seem to get into enough trouble on the forum, even after pondering, without exposing myself to live action flaming.

I don't think it would in anyway supersede any of the forum work. Surely it's more for banter and really complex situations that could do with explaining rather than posting a 5000 word post.

It would definitely be more light hearted in there. I've had a couple of good chats in there in the past.
