Default Bye Bye Auckland!!! I have a new love: Wellington

I actually heard the word "hoon" a few days after reading the above posts. "James was hooning it" - when I was really driving the speed limit. Oh well, when you've got cool looks like me you just can't help it I guess [smiley=icon_twisted.gif] (umm, yeah, I don't wear pink shirts. That makes me uncool I guess).

And yes, back to topic (if you can call it that).....

No, I wasn't involved in that brawl. I haven't been to Welly in a loooong time (3 weeks ;).

I don't have a baseball bat with me either. I do have 2 baseballs and a baseball glove though.

I like the Australian version of 'hoon' - doesn't sound as tolerant as 'boy racer'. We had one last night driving up and down the road. As soon as we thought he had gone and started to drift back to sleep, he came back with his oversized exhausts, speeding and leaving rubber on the road. Almost felt like going out and chucking a rock at the car.

Bid to silence noisy cars
14.02.06

The National Party has launched a petition to get cars with noisy exhausts off the streets. National MP Nicky Wagner, of Christchurch, said the problem of noisy car exhausts was "out of control".

She had been inundated with complaints from businesses and visitors and said the problem was harming the tourism industry. There were now 94,000 excessively noisy cars on the streets.

"National wants the decibel limit tightened at least to the Australian standard and we want an objective test to check exhaust noise during a warrant of fitness."

She has drafted a Control of Noisy Exhausts Bill to address the problem.

The petition will back this up with public support.

Oh James just how lucky can a guy get. ?Your two loves in one place.

Baamy army on the hoof in Wellington
14 February 2006 ?
By KIM RUSCOE

Wellywood move over, the humble sheep has ousted the ape in a Woollywood takeover. A 65-strong camera crew was out in force in Wellington during the weekend, filming a flock of sheep "behaving like humans" for an advertisement for a British bank. Film Wellington manager Jean Johnston was giving little away about the plot but said sheep were filmed rushing to catch trains at Wellington railway station, driving cars, crossing roads and even catching planes.

"Doing all the things people usually do," she said.

The stars of the show, seemingly unaffected by their new-found fame, were from Kapiti Coast-based Hero Animals, which also provided horses for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Ms Johnston said the film company chose to shoot the commercial in Wellington as it was the most "film-friendly" city in the world, agreeing to close off roads and make its streets available to them. Film Wellington acted for the company free of charge and took care of the logistics.

"This is worth a lot of money to the city and we want to encourage filming here," she said.

Come on, James, we all know you're the dedicated founder member of Al Sheepa. The sheep of NZ would be at risk if it wasn't for your love and mindfullness of their safety and wellbeing.

So are Kiwi cars not yet required to have mufflers? Or are "glass packs" allowed? I don't know much about glass packs, but they are intentionally used to make a car noisier ("hey, lookit me! i have a car that sounds like crap!"). They are allegedly illegal in CA, though the law doesn't seem to be enforced much.

I hope the bill passes.

That about sums it up. If only they realised what 'grown ups' think about them. But then, would they even care? I very much doubt it. After all, we're not 'cool' 8-)
