I saw your post and really felt for you, even had some good argumentive points to add ... but chickened out rather than be similarly crucified.

There are certainly some stressed folks about on these forums, guess it 'goes with the territory'. There is a nicer bunch on here though!
Thanks for that Glenda.

Part of the reason I love this site is because everything is so civilised. I don't mind people expressing negative opinions at all - after all, it's through various forums that I realised that wages are generally lower in NZ. However, I do prefer people to express their opinions in a friendly and less aggresive way. Sadly, this is lacking in most other forums. :(

I have noticed that usually the culprits are Brits who have tried NZ and find that they are not as well off as they expected. Personally, I look on the poor wages and small economy of NZ as a welcome break from the more materialistic and money-centred attitudes of the UK.

I used to post on other forums before I started this one, and similarly got shot down in flames for the simplest of things. It was because of that, MoveToNZ was born with a strict policy of niceness :icon_biggrin:

Some people prefer to live the lives of Coronation Street, always at war with people over nothing. These are the people who don't get along in NZ, because they can't adapt and accept a new life with differing opinions and cultures.

As the Kiwis would say... Stuff 'em!

Heh, stuff 'em is good advice.

In any society you can find situations or issues to argue about. Thats because all societies are made up of imperfect humans. Small arguements are signs of small minds.

Next time pass them this politically incorrect pic...

OMG netchicken ... that really is so unPC, uncomfortably so. Don't know whether to be shocked, give a little laugh or just nod the head sagely. :icon_neutral:

Debating a topic is good, as it makes people stop and consider others? points of view (or at least it should do). And that?s what it should be, debating, not arguing. There?s no need for nastiness, as long as everyone is allowed their say and, if it?s not what the next person agrees with, we should just agree to differ. We are all individuals and have varied feelings and viewpoints and, let?s face it, the world would be pretty boring if we all thought the same things. Taking other people?s views on board is a learning and growing experience, even if we don?t entirely agree with them. If someone finds it too difficult to accept that people have differing thoughts, to the extent where they have to be nasty to them, that smacks of arrogance and gives way to bullyboy tactics.

Yes, Glenda. That?s a tricky one.

Well, PCness should dictate that I remove that picture! That's pretty close to the bone Mr Netchicken...

I'm not going to though, cos it's true. I would also bet that the kid in the picture, no matter what his troubles might be, is probably a hell of a nicer person than most nasty internet arguers. At least the bugger is getting up and having a go of making his life better, rather than being nasty to other people just because his own situation is bad.

Good on ya, mate!

What I don't understand is how people can seriously consider moving to another country and not expect a culture shock. I'm not sure how anyone with a bit of logic in their head can think they can move to the otherside of the world, and everything will just be exactly the same for them as in their home country...and as an added bonus, they'll make billions of dollars. :icon_rolleyes: Money isn't everything, people! Most of us here on this forum know what to expect (or at least, what not to expect), and New Zealand offers the kind of life we are looking for.... We're not bitter... we just want fresh air, nice peaceful lives and friendly people to chat along with. And that's what makes us nicer. :icon_biggrin:

Well if I may add my tuppence worth as a fairly ouotspoken liberal kind of guy!!!

It's lucky Taffy saw this first as I would have deleted it without question. In my humble opinion there are other ways to illustrate the point than the picture. I too was pretty shocked by the image then Taffy goes and calls the poor mite a bugger later on hehe.

Crazy.

Just my thoughts.

I don't know Stevey, I think it did rather get the point accross. A bit tasteless; yes; but it did sum up nicely the pointlessness of arguing on the net.

That and I do long for the days when kids were thick or lazy rather than "have learning difficulties"
and Attention deficit disorder was not a term applied to badly behaved kids (and before you shoot me down, I do accept that there are some genuine cases out there)

I agree completely, when I read the stories of people who return to the UK, it always seems to be the same reasons time and time again

wages are less - hey did you not find this out before you went there?

they had two good incomes in the UK and decided to go out to NZ and only have one income (hey you already know wages are less, isn't that a bit of a no brainer?)

Kiwis hate immigrants - odd that one cos those that love it say they same, perhaps it is your attitude at fault yer numpty!

NZ doesn't have as many shops like in UK - again had you not worked this out before you went, if they are that important to you, then you are unlikely to settle happily in NZ

And the other reason - they always post their outgoings, listing a who load of non essentials that they signed up for before realising they couldn't afford them. Why do people do that? surely it is just common sense, to only commit yourself to things after you know there is going to be enough money comming in. eg sky, gym membership, huge phone bills, both land line and mobile etc etc. They have taken their life in the UK and tried to ship it out to NZ. If they wanted to change their lives, why bring baggage like materialism with you?
