    Default Back from NZ

Arrived back form NZ on Tuesday! Well worth the trip out there as I ended up with 4 interview offers, of which I ended up with the choice of 3 jobs!! :icon_lol:

Have taken a permanent position at Browns Bay Primary School on the North Shore which begins Feb 2006.............and I have got a place for my 8 year old at the same school so that childcare isn't an issue!!!!!!

My 16 year old has also got a place at Westlake Boys High so he can start his A levels again in February.

Opened a bank account and now just need to find a rental to live in when I return.

Am due to fly out for good in 5/6 weeks but have had a hold up on my ITA as due to having a US passport too, I needed an FBI check and that hasn't returned yet!!!!! Looks like I'll have to go on a visitors visa with a return ticket.

    It's actually happening!!!! :icon_mrgreen: :023:

PS On the return ticket front, can anyone advise me on how they've done this? Ticket to Australia/home???????????????

What great news, Fisheress. So glad everything went well for you. Guess you'll have a lot to do between now and the time you leave. I'm sure we'll all be glad to hear more of your adventures when you have time.

Forgot to add, I think I've heard of someone else doing the Oz bit with their onward ticket. Ought to be the cheapest option.

Thought you just had to prove that you had the means to purchase an onward ticket? Did they change it? I wiould just say I wasn't sure whether I was going to Fiji next or Oz so thought I 'd wait and see. You've only gotta past customs on arrival don't you?

Fisheress, that all sounds awesome! :icon_biggrin: ('awesome' - favourite kiwi word of the moment). Schools, job and area sound very good ... you must really be excited now!

If you buy a return ticket 'home', make sure it is refundable. We did the 'buy a ticket to Oz' route. Booked an Air NZ ticket online ... you have a choice of non/part/fully refundable tickets - the most expensive are fully refundable. Make the ticket date four or five months away as it was impressed on us at the airports that we need an Oz visitors visa, to which I promised I would get as soon as I could. :icon_wink:

Glenda can you not just show proof of being able to purchase a return ticket?

I was told "no" - they want proof that you will be leaving the country.

I think there maybe some cases where proof of being able to purchase a ticket can be shown - a temporary or holiday work visa for example (absolutely not sure about that!!!) but from what I have read from others experience over the last couple of years you need that return or onward ticket.

Who said that? I know ANZ check in staff get it all wrong but surely if the Immigration Service's website says you only need proof of ability to buy another ticket then they're word supersedes it?

I might try and get a letter or email from someone there proving it. It seems a right waste of precious funds. Specially on a WHV, I'm gonna have to earn somewhere in a year and shouldn't be forced to plan 2 years in advance. I don't even know whether I want to go to OZ afterwards or back Home as far as they're concerned.
