Hi,

My gf has been offered employment in NZ of a salary around $40'000 per annum. Would this be considered a decent wage for NZ? Its very hard to judge being from the UK and not knowing a typical wage there.

I'm sure there are plenty people on here who'll know better than me.. but here's my 2 penny worth..
40,000 NZD is 15,000 sterling..

15 grand here is probably on the low side I would guess (i'm sure there are millions who would kill to be earning 15grand right enough)
but I would think that 40 000 NZD in new zealand would be the same as earning 40,000 sterling here in the UK.. which is a very good wage..

bit of a ramble there , but the upshot is , i think that would be considered a decent wage in New Zealand

I think being on $40,000 would be the same as being on about GBP 20 - 30k in the UK, depending on which part of the UK you are in!

Of course, a lot would depend on where the job is, as it's a poor wage for Auckland / Welly / ChCh, but good for a lot of other places!
