Default Is it really so diffuculy to get into NZ

After sending all our info to a couple of agencies it seems so frustrating to be able to plan the move.
One was useless, the other says get back to spend ?2,500 with them to progress it when we have done all the groundwork!
My partner( wife to be want to start up our own business near Queenstown as we are both sporty outdoor types, but maybe get local jobs to support us as well to get by.

But it seems so hard going and need a light to shine to get the best route!
Any kind souls give us guidance from there experinces of getting out from the uk!

    thanks :icon_confused:

Welcome to the forum macfod :icon_biggrin:

My first advice would be, don't use an agent! They can be horrendously expensive and there is nothing in the process that you can't do yourself with a bit of research, patience and persistence!

Have you had a look at the NZIS website? http://www.immigration.govt.nz/ You might get some helpful hints there about how to move to NZ. Why not try the points calculator to see if you currently qualify to emigrate there, then you can work out under what category you can apply.

You don't have to have Permanent Residency (PR) before you go, although some people prefer the security of it. You could, for example, just go over on a Working Holiday Visa and go from there.

Let us know if you need any more advice ::):

    Hi macfod,

Which visa were you planning on applying for? The Long Term Business Visa or Permanent residency?

If you apply for the LTBV, you wont be able to work outside of the business you start, until you get residency under the entrepreneur category.

Anyway, as Welshgirl said, be careful with agencies as they can charge an awful lot of money for basically submitting your already completed paperwork. If you need any help filling in and submitting said paperwork, just post on here! We've got someone who went through the LTBV who can help you, and most of the rest of us know plenty about applying for PR.

Good luck with it all anyway!!

    Default thanks

Thanks for the advise Taffy and Welshgirl.

Too be honest we are both holding good jobs here in England but long to do our own thing - ideally in the Queenstown are.

We are looking to open our own hiking /tours/diving outdoor type business.

I suppose in that area emplyment may be difficult , thus the option of the setting up our own business,
As you say the agencies appear a waste of time.
The other problem is points- we have no kids and my wife to be is 53 so time is no on our side.

But, we are heavy into exploring the move for next year and will get back soon with more questions.

    thanks :icon_biggrin:

At present we have the lowest unemployment level in the OECD - basically the western world, at about 3.something percent.

I wouldn't be too worried about coming and looking for work, Auckland in particular is crying out for workers.
