    Default Hepatitis B vaccinations

We saw the doc yesterday for our medical certificates. The "vaccinations" section asked about Hep B, and a note below said that one may be required to get missing vaccinations before emigrating. Is there anyone else who hadn't had a Hep B vaccination before, and did you have to get it for NZIS? The series is expensive at the doc's office, and I hate to go to all the trouble if NZIS doesn't push it.

As far as I am aware it is not compulsory. If you have any children, any school that they attend may require that the child/ren is/are immunised fully - children also have to have a Meninigitis B vaccination here, as this strain of Meninigitis is around in NZ. Your GP will ask you if you are fully immunised when you go for your medical for PR (assuming you haven't already got PR!) but as far as I know, whether you have had the Hep B jab or not, is nothing to do with NZIS. We haven't had the jab.....

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong....

Good to hear, though I wouldn't mind the vaccination, just the cost. Maybe I can get it NZ for cheap.

Go to Saudi Arabia or something and get it 'cheap' there think of the money you'll save :icon_biggrin:
IMHO it's never good to skimp on costs of medical procedures. Spose a jab is a fairly low risk thing somewhere civilized.

Anyone know a where Shellie can have her blood test done under general anesthetic for the medical.
This is not a joke, if she can't we aren't going, extreme needlephobia.

With the best will in the world, I think it would be highly unlikely you will find any GP/hospital that will be prepared to risk giving a general anaesthetic just to take some blood from her (not belittling the problem by saying that, I just mean that giving an anaesthetic is considered much more 'serious' than taking blood and therefore they wouldn't risk giving her an anaesthetic for what would be considered a minor procedure.....).

I could be wrong though, and I wish I was in a way, for your wife's sake! It's a difficult problem to have - has Shellie considered something like hypnotherapy, or even some sedative medication as a one off?......

    Good luck!

Thought the only way of having GA was by needle now anyway. They don't use gas anymore as far as I know. Unless there's a mad tablet you can take now or something?

Tricky one tho, hope you find a solution :icon_sad:
