If you can afford to yes!! Easier to get jobs and easier to pester the office that is processing application. By being in country they will know that you're serious and assuming you have skills they want it should get a certain amount of priority with processing one would think.

Stevey, I don't suppose you would care to put a figure on the amount you would need to be able to afford that approach.

If, for example, you arrived in NZ with 10 Grand in Sterling and a few suitcases.
How long do you think that would give you to get your self sorted?

Well thats a tough one as some will be able to get 'earning' quicker than others I would imagine. Ironically thats probably the amount that I'll be arriving with. We intend to tour around for a week (flying visits) finding the area we like most with the best job/property prospects etc. then spend the following week relaxing in that area, signing on with agencies etc and finding a house to rent. Being in Marketing I don't expect I'll get the right job straight away so while I wait I'm gonna do some agency work whatever that may be (factory work if it comes down to it) so we can save what money we haven't spent already for deposit when we actually buy.
Cost - Well we're not gonna live it up too much so I'll be dissaponted if we spend too much more than 5-600 quid on the first two weeks, not including accomodation or rental deposits etc. Take away the cost of a car 3-4k and should leave at least 5k for deposit (the same as we put on our house in UK). Think this is more than possible and may even a worse case scenario as we'll have alittle over 10k in reality (we've already budgetted 2k for flights which will be way cheaper for one ways in reality (around 1200 it seems).
Now you've asked and I've only tried to respond honestly, perhaps my plans are way of beam but I'll discover that so please no picking holes in my budget everyone :icon_biggrin:

I'm glad I asked actually as that pretty much mirrors our plans..
exceot we're just going to hit auckland.. and see what happens..

similar monetary values are involved though.. unless we manage to get more for our house than we're budgeting.. (although we could always get less... :icon_frown: )

I'm starting to come round to thinking that this might be the way to go..

If we leave here and go there and it doesn't work out we can come back and start again,.

Worst case scenario, a few months holiday in a beautiful country....

and at least we can say we gave it a go...
1 big adventure, thats all it is..

Thant's the spirit Craig. Go for it!!!

If it doesn't work out we can all come home together and set up a community all together and seek counselling. :icon_confused:

I read recently in a motorbike magazine.

    Is it?

There's always a chance you can do the things you've regretted not doing, but you can never change the past!!!

    Bit of a paradox, really.

Of course, even better than either of those:

You should never regret anything as every experience, good or bad, is a lesson in creating a happy future.

Great Minds think alike eh Craig eh?

It just seems logical that way, especially if you do get on the ladder. Even if you buy a house and leave after 6 months, you'll still make a profit so its all good imho!!

Hehe SteveyC forever the optimist eh? hehe
