Default how long can I leave nz for and still kep my residency
I am currently considering applying for residency but I am unsure if it's worth it or not. I am trying to way up the cost between residency application and work visa costs (for 2 yrs). If I leave in 2 years time with coming back in the future in mind, how long can I be out of nz for a retain my residency?
Also wondering about citizenship.. If I wanted to become a citizen, how long would I have to be here for? Would it help that my partner is a kiwi??

I am pretty sure that if you meet the criteria after 2 years of holding pr ie live in nz, house, pay taxes etc you can apply for an indeffinate resident return visa.

I think the citizenship rule changed to 5 years just recently, but not hundred percent sure on that one, I know it used to be 3 yrs.
