Default 2 year Work Visa under partnership What are the hassels ??

Hi Taffy, I just received the sponsorship form for a work permit and I don't like it. One has to prove that one can support a person from a minimum of $400 month to $1000 for 12 to 24 months and then get a declaration from the bank to say you have that money. I haven't got that king of money but I am freehold to the value od $450,000. Now I am told it is better for the person to come in as a visitor and she is allowed 3months and in that time she can find a job and apply for a permit. Is this the way to go???

Seems like the only way to go if you dont have the supporting cash. At least that way, she can get a work permit without much hassle, and you dont have to risk your home!

Hi Taffy, How does one find Section 18A of the Immigration Act ?? I think after reading a bit more we will attempt to go straight for a Residence Permit regardless of the 12 months living together. and see what happens. I may phone them again on this matter. I think they are actually just looking for proof of a relationship. What are your thoughts??? Any one else out there been down this track????

Hi marksie,

That link only gives details about returning residents, not residency visas. Which part of it answered your question?

Hi Taffy, I am an Australian living in New Zealand on an Australian Pass Port. Can you tell me how strict are they about this living together for 12 months that I read. I can't see how it applies in my case and it would appear that this rule could be waivered if you can supply evedience that you are in a stable partnership. I have copied all the defitions for this. What are your thoughts. Something has to be in my favour at 60years of age and in love again.

They are quite strict about all of the rules they have in place. If you had been together for 11 months, they could possibly have over looked it, but as it's only really been a few weeks, there is no way they could consider it as a stable relationship.

Have you looked in to how Australia deal with this kind of process? They may have different rules to NZ which may allow her to gain Australian residency. If she had that, she could move to NZ without restriction.

Default The difference between Vias and Permit

Hi Taffy, Wondering if you could refresh my memory what is the difference between Visa and Permit. I believe I read some where that a Permit allows you to work anywhere in New Zealand but a Visa doesn't. I thought you may be able to clarify this. I am finally getting around to filling out my partners application for a sponsored work permit because it has to be completed within 3 months of flying. What I can't understand is they want to know what her outward bound arrangements are. How on earth can you book a fare 2 years away when you have told them your intentions are to marry and apply for residence and live in New Zealand.???? The immigration department seem to be like a bad web site that takes you arround in circles. One gets totally confused at some of the questions. Surely to one should know if the permit is granted before one books the airfare as that is confusing to because they want to know the fly dates for in and out of New Zealand. We just want to know if we have permission first before bookings are made.

Hi,

A visa allows you to enter New Zealand, a permit allows you to stay (and work in the case of a work permit).

How long is the term you are applying for on the work permit? If it is over 12 months, then you do not need to complete the outward travel arrangements as it is not normally possible to book flights that far in advance.

Agree with you about the NZIS website, it does take you off in some odd directions!

Default What is culturally arranged marriage

Hi Taffy, Another quick question --- Application for the purpose of a culturally arranged marriage. What does this mean Where can I find the true meaning for this. Why can't they add a clear meaning to this. Since we will be getting married should I fill this out but there are 2 questions I can't answer.I don't think it really applies to us. What do you think??
The 2 questions are
1. Evidence that there is no legal impediment to the intended marriage
2 Evidence that the marriage follows an identified cultural tradition
Should I put a line through it with N/A
