Default Questions from emigrate show York

    Hi guys

Just got back from emigrate show in York. We went to the one at Sanddown a couple of months ago and have to say that one was much better. A little disapointed as there were not as many stalls and representatives for NZ.

Now for the question! Of course we were pulled in by a few immigration agents but we then went to the NZ Gov stand. They told us to be careful about going on a long holiday because if passport control got a sniff of you wanting to stay and find work they would send you home! :icon_confused: How scary is that!

I don't know how they can prove it, if you have a return ticket. It seems a bit confusing and bizarre as they all agree it is perfectly legal to do it this way.

Has anyone else had these problems, or heard of that happening. We don't want to feel like we are entering the country and doing something wrong.

Is it after all safer to get the job offer and PR before the move?

    What a load of rubbish!!

Firstly, how would they ever find out that you were actively seeking work?

Secondly, it says on their website somewhere in the sales patter that 'You're here on holiday and have decided you want to stay?'. It then goes on to explain HOW to stay!

And lastly, do you really believe that the NZ government dont want anyone visiting NZ if they have the view to living their? And would kick people out of the country for loving it and wanting to stay?!

Next thing they'd have us believe is being prosecuted for emailing your CV to NZ companies!

I think the advice should be: If you're coming to look for work, make sure you do it by the book and get yourself the correct work permit before starting any job. As long as you are remaining within the conditions of your visa, there is no reason on earth why NZIS would ever consider sending you home.

If passport control ask us about where we are staying I'll tell them Hamilton! :icon_wink:

One of the agents at the show told us that a marriage certificate wasn't enough proof for immigration anymore. We would have to supply photos and letters etc. I'll have to bring my entire attic, if we want to apply for PR while there. They may just get a little concerned at passport control then.

Ian says I'm paraniod about everything. I am!

The marriage certificate is fine if its for a long period of time!

I'd bring things like bank statements (if in joint names) and perhaps letters from your solicitor about purchasing your house etc, just to be on the safe side :icon_mrgreen:
