And if she ever reads that "spider" post someone put on, there's not a hope in hell of her even visiting NZ!!!![/quote:b952a11f80]

Whoops ... was that me? We have a big plastic spider on our car dashboard, a reminder of our holiday in Australia. :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif My sister is so terrified of spiders she will not even set foot in our car until I remove it. :icon_lol:

(Sorry ... going a bit off topic. :icon_rolleyes: )

Default Families!!!

We are having more separation anxiety troubles from our friends than family. Mostly from single female friends who depend on me for "handy person" chores. One friend had a bit of a tantrum, mostly because several of her closer friends have recently moved far away or died. But our friends do brighten up and ask if they can come visit. Hopefully they will! We will really miss friends and our home. But after grieving a bit, I'm sure we will be happier in NZ overall.

I don't have much family left (sister, nephews and a loony, manipulative grandmother), and they all live halfway across the continent. We see each other every few years (when I make the trek to them), so a 9,000 mile (?) separation isn't traumatic - at least not for me. Although we try to see my OH's mother a few times a year, we are now having strife with her on a completely different subject. Who knows how that will pan out. Maybe being far away will help, but I do worry about her - she's 81 and living alone. And we'll be leaving her to the tender mercies of the slacker-sponge brother, who also has the sun shining from his nether regions.

Glenda & Moggy, my heart goes out to you. I hope things work out. Perhaps we can all joyously meet at one of the annual MTNZ Holiday parties and create new family.

Selchie, what a lovely thing to say. ::):

It is very difficult balancing what is best for an elderly relative and what is best for yourself and your family. Sometimes you just cannot do it. We know FIL will be fine - he has family members to dangle the 'inheritance carrot' in front of and a social life to be envious of (he meets up with a gaggle of widows most days of the week to play cards, all of whom seem to be after his attentions. :icon_lol: ). With only 10 days to go before we leave, he is still not talking to us or the children. Quite a relief, really ... better than tears! :icon_neutral:

I certainly think that it will help me, I have tried for years to make my mother love and respect me as much as my brother and I have now given up. Once we are the other side of the planet, I can put her out of my mind.

I have major issues and problems with my family that have lasted since my early teens, I was the white sheep of the family. I remember each day that I am moving to New Zealand with my FAMILY. Nice :icon_razz:
