Default Work To Residence?

An accredited employer is someone who has pre-approval from the NZIS to employ overseas workers on a temporary basis. Employers who are not accredited have to have approval from the NZIS to employ you, or if they've gone ahead and taken you on without approval, then they need to state why they took you on, instead of a New Zealander.

If you are going for a work permit first, it can be much better to find work with an accredited employer, but it is not necassary.

After you've secured a job, THEN fill out your EOI :icon_biggrin:

Work permits take up to 60 days to process, and they are going to use every single one of them whilst processing mine I rekon! Been 5 weeks since mine was submitted, still no response :icon_sad:

Gosh, quick reply . Thanks again for all the advice. We are going to the emigration show again in three weeks and most of our questions are answered, thanks to this fantastic forum. Hope I can be submitting threads in NZ not too long for now.

So I presume I and the kids still come on student visas then, although I might not be able to afford the fees until I'm a permanent!

What kind of things would stop you getting Perm. Res.(not that I've a criminal record or anything to hide :112:) and what timescale would be the Norm.,still concerned about getting settled after buying house, kids in school etc etc then 2 years down the line been told to sling my hook :icon_cry:

If you tell the truth and fit the bill, then there isnt much that can stop you getting residency.

Timescales.. well, how longs a piece of string?! Resdency can be finalised in as quickly as 1 month, or you can drag it out for up to 2 years!

Of course, it only takes 2 years if you dont act upon everything until very last minute. Average timescale, probably 4 months in all.

just wondering , if you do get offer of work and work permit gets sorted quickly, what do you do about meds and police check can they rush them through? I heard meds can take ages. Can we get police check now to save time? I have already had my checked as I worked in a school until feb, but I will need confimation/ doing again, right?

If, when you get a job, you are going to apply for residency immediately, then just apply for a 20 month work permit. You wont need to get medicals done for your work permit then, so it gives you plenty of time to get everything else sorted.

If you are confident of getting a job pretty quickly, then you may as well get your police checks done as they last for 6 months anyway.
