Hi,

I just wondered if anyone could recommend a cheap car hire company. We are coming over in May and need to hire. Some of the quotes I have found are really high. We only want an economy car, nothing flashy!!

So if anyone know of a firm it would be really helpful.

When I first came here and hired a car, it was about $29 a day, but was of pretty questionable quality! When Welshgirl and our little one arrived after me, I got a car from Rent-a-dent, which was $55 a day, but of a much higher quality. This was a 2ltr estate car (station wagon), and there were much cheaper economy cars available.

You could buy a used car for $500-$1500

I used these guys for my trip down to ChCh. Pretty good rates, unlimited mileage. www.drivenz.co.nz

We are just coming out for a holiday, at the moment so not actually looking to buy.

When/if we get accepted we will definitely need to buy.

I will have a look into the ones you mention for hire though.

We were out in New Zealand Dec 03 and used www.airportcarhire.co.nz. We had the car over 21 days so got $24/day & $6 insurance waiver.

We were picked up and dropped off at the airport and had no problems with car at all and travelled a huge distance.
