B&B/motel/location

In your opinion, where would be the best location in the North Island to attract year long tourist accomodation on the coast in an area which would be suitable for family everyday life?

Coromandel, Bay of Plenty (Tauranga), Waihi Beach (in between Coromandel/BOP), Hawkes Bay. All of them are pretty small compared to the cities you are used to, but have decent stores and such not too far away.

I'm sure there's others (well, maybe ALL of New Zealand, excluding Auckland ;-)) but these I've been to or have a friend there and seem pretty nice.
