best route to residency

After travelling around New Zealand recently to decide where we would like to settle,we liked the Nelson area and have been fortunate enough to have been offered a job in the region.We have submitted an expression of interest form but we are slightly concerned about the amount of time it would take for the residency application to process.With this in mind we were wondering whether it would be a better idea to apply for a work visa first of all & then apply for residency whilst we are in NZ.Does anyone have any advice for us on this subject?

Hi,
It depends on your circumstances really. If you are already in NZ, then it's probably best to try for a work permit as it will extend your stay and allow you to start work quickly. You may find it difficult to get a work permit as your employer has to prove that no NZ citizens were available to take that position.

If you are still at home, and aren't in any real hurry, then wait it out.

Of course, the ultimate decision is up to you!
