Default Securing employment - HELP PLEASE!!!

After visiting New Zealand House I was advised to complete my EOI. I am a Probation Offficer and hope to settle with my family in Auckland (my sister has lived in Auckland 22yrs). I accessed the Department of Corrections Website but hit a brick wall reagrding employment :icon_frown: To apply for a position I MUST have the required visa to work, I cannot get the visa unitil I have gone through the whole process.....its very confusing. My EOI was selected on 03/03/05. I have 100pts, I already have a degree. I have work experience and jobs ARE available. I have applied to current vacancies and have just had email with application form for positions in Auckland, but I know I won't be shortlisted due to having no visa. THis is really frustrating as I just want to secure a job and move ASAP!!! THe process is very slow.
Any ideas or advise welcomed.

Hi Laura, be patient you'll get there...... your invitation to apply (ITA)should be with you in the next 2 weeks from experience

If you want to progress this faster and your are sure you have no problems getting a visa/permit, then start booking the medical with a panel doctor (see NZIS web site) , get your police check (should be no problem for a probation officer) and start preparing to move.

As for probation officer jobs I'm sure these types of jobs are kept open for the right people, make sure your application is first class and you'll have no problems....

good luck... slow down and enjoy the experience..

Default Securing employment & medicals

Thanks for advice, I have completed the application form and emailed today. I ensured that I included the skills I have and hopefully if they cannot hold a position, they may hold on to my details. :icon_razz:

I cannot believe the cost of the medicals!!!! :icon_rolleyes:
I have four children, two of which are no longer dependant on me and do not live at home. These two are not coming to NZ with me... :icon_sad: although they intend to follow in a few years via thier own applications (they want to decide for themselves). Do I need to have medicals done for them? The NZIS guide states you need to have medicals for all DEPENDANT children. My daughter is 20yrs and my son nearly 18yrs...but financially support themselves and as stated, do NOT live at home. The guide also says dependant child is defined as any child of applicant or partner up to the age of 24yrs financially dependant upon us.

Hi Laura, As far as I can make out from the information from NZIS and what you've indicated, your two eldest children over 18 are not dependant. Also since they are not going with you they're going to be definitely independent.

It seem that if there is a family history illness then they will need to be part of the medical application other than that no.. but check with London.

How much are the medicals in your area... in Cardiff we are paying ?462 incl 2 X-rays.

I hope this helps..... cheers ! :icon_biggrin:
