Qualifications

I don't know if anyone else has found the immigration.govt.nz site rubbish for specific information like this but I certainly have.
Basically the only qualifications they have listed are degrees, does this mean they are the only recognised basic qualification that is critical in the points calculator? Because I thought degrees were generally level 7 wheras the definition for basic qualification is level 3 or 4. In which case, what is level 3 or 4. My Wife has A-Levels and I cave certificates in marketing and higher grade GCSEs but have a horrible feeling these are worthless with regards immigration applications.

Yes, we found the info pretty poor as well. I have a certificate in management from the OU which I have been told is a level 5 - I think it depends where your qualification is from as well. We have had to pay for pre-assessment for my husbands qualifications (degrees but not from any of the places listed) and are now having to pay for full assessment. Not cheap.

I found that emailing NZQA directly was more helpful - perhaps you could try that route.

have a degreee from Bedford College before it was imalgameted into De Montfort University, so it doesn't appear on the list

I seem to have enough points without it being on the list anyway, do I have to pay for it to be assessed and what does that cost?

It's worth checking if your degree was awared by the Council for National Academic awards (which is usually the case for the old Polys and HE colleges). If it is, then you are on the recognised qualifcations list - look carefully!
