Default Investor or Skilled migrant?

Looking at the points table I pass for both investor and skilled migrant category. My question would be; if I am not likely to get a job without actually being in NZ then I may only get a work permit, then worry about having to get a job pronto to gain PR. Would I be better to apply as an investor (I'm aware of the 2 year rule) then not worry about getting a job with a company and do my own thing. If this sounds confusing apologies :icon_wink:

River,

If you have enough points for SMC route, even without a job, then go that route. I would say do it asap as well...........NZIS are passing people very quickly now compared to even 4 months ago. Many people are getting full PR without jobs at the minute (ourselves included :icon_wink: )

thanks for the reply. It is less money also which helps.
So if I were succesful do you need to get a job in the area in which I'm qualified, (my area of graphics falls into the SSL which gains a few points). there's no saying I won't, but I want to keep my options open.
Also if you get full PR without a job do you have to actually get employment at all, as I've a few quid I may invest to gain a living and my wife's interested in employment within the education sector.

River,

Seems most of us are getting a "clean" PR without any strings. If you get that, then you don't "have" to do anything if you don't want - they basically award you the right to reside in the country and abide by the laws !

I didn't expect that to be the case as I've read about it, but it seemed too straightforward. But hey, it's what I wanted to hear :icon_biggrin:

So for instance I fill in my EOI get selected go through the check, forms etc, etc and get PR. What are the time limits to get to NZ. I want to take my time as I've still got loads of research to do and a visit to nz.

Also, if I only got a work permit could you re apply as an investor, sorry for all the questions I'm treating you like a consultant :icon_mrgreen: if you don't know does anyone out there!!

No problem.....if you get PR without a job offer, then you have (I think) 6 months to pay the Migrant Levy.....and then it is 12 months to turn the Visa into a Permit, by entering the country.

If they start to change things and offer you a WTR Visa, then I think I am right in saying that as long as you get a job and stay in it for 3 months, then that automatically turns into PR....not 100% on that one though.....hence you could then jack in the job and do what you want!
