South Island Weather

So, my husband and I went to see a video that some acquaintances had taken on their recent 3 week trip from Picton to Christchurch, (the long way around). In every scene, the wind was blowing hard. Was it just because they were either on the coast or on mountaintops? Was it because they went in October? Now, I like a good windy day as much as the next guy, but a constant battering zephyr, well, I just don't think I'd be able to handle it without going completely buggy.

I'm sure there's more questions about the weather, but this one is Very Important. Really. So, is it always windy on the South Island?

Nope, it was none of them....

It was because we had the crappiest #@#@#$$# spring and summer ever. This year has truely been a case of "you should have been here LAST year"

Our summer is certinaly not par for the course at present.
