shipping STUFF

I have my ITA. I'm working on the paper gathering. I have a tentative job offer. Next question... Am I going to look like a rich bastard American when the container rolls up to my new NZ home and I off load the goods?

Have heard a lot of teeth gnashing about how people don't like material goods plopped in their faces. I'm a mechanic. I need my tools for work. Big tools. Big tool box. Therefore, Big container with the big tool box, and since I'm going that far, why not bring some household items too? Can't hide something like that can you?

Opinions and facts from past experiences. please?

I wouldnt worry too much, I think its more a case of people dont like to hear others boasting about what stuff they have. Its ok to own nice stuff, otherwise none of the shops would sell it! Just dont brag about it to others.

And as you have those nice big tools, I'll know where to bring my car to be fixed for a good price!

I'll second what Taffy said! Very few people are materialistic in NZ - everyone is pretty much equal however much or little you own - your attitude and outlook are what seem to earn you the most respect, not who's got the biggest car or the best television......

So you've got some nice/expensive things?..... bring them over, enjoy them but don't brag about them (!) and enjoy NZ!
