Default America is the only country to......

Hey guys. I'm baaack. Now that I have a job I can focus my efforts on other things than a job search.

I'm trying to compile a list of things that only Americans do. My mind isn't working tonight, and figured with 50+ minds working on the same problem we can come up with something that lil ole me wouldn't be able to.....

Here's what I have so far:

-- Sequential names (James Sr, James Jr, James III....and you bet if I can help it my son will be James Carman IV!!!!)

-- Use the old British Imperial system for measurements (the British now use the metric system)

-- Month, Day, Year - Everywhere else (that I'm aware of) lists Day, Month, Year (smallest to biggest).

-- Colleges - I thought it was just in Spanish that College (collegio) meant High School....but it's in a lot more places than just Hispanic countries. The name used around the world for secondary education is "University" - which American's also use, but it's a lot more common to say "College" in the States.....here if you say you have a "College Education" it means you have what at a vast majority of the country has - a high school education.

Light switches. I noticed they were different here in NZ, than they are in the US. But I'm beginning to suspect that it's yet another thing that us Americans are the only country to do.....in the US it's up is on, and down is off. In NZ it's down is on, and up is off. Is it like that in the UK too?

Oh, the US is the only country to do a lot of things politically. And most of it is hilarious. But I'm not looking to offend anyone (well, Republicans). :icon_wink:

Only America could vote en-mass against a re-election of Bush, and still end up with him back in the chair!

Light switches - well, i suppose it depends which way you put the switch facia on, and whether or not it was a gang switch. but, for the majority of cases, up is off, down is on in the UK.

Not to mention for one guy to get the most votes and still lose. But I digress....

Seriously though - I do like the "Electoral College" - If we didn't have it all anyone would focus on would be the big cities where a majority of the population is: LA, NY, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, San Fran, etc.... No one would care about Indiana, Maine, South Dakota, Connecticut, etc.
