Hi,

I think pensions are quite a personal thing and are quite different for every person. I would strongly recommend you seek professional financial advice before making any decisions as I dont think there is any generic answer for this kind of topic.

Thanks Taffy.I was afraid that might be the answer! My pension scheme have been rather unhelpful by sending out their blanket info. Will need to search again for the answers

Have just stumbled across Britannia Financial Services website. They claim they transfer UK pensions to NZ and have a list of UK schemes they've done this with. You can as for an online assessment and they show you the process.....don't know if it is better to transfer or leave in Uk

Was very interested in what you have said regarding the Teachers Pension Scheme. I am also a teacher and am just beginning to look seriously at the possibility of moving to NZ. Would be very interested to here whether it is better to leave it or to transfer.
If I find anything out I'll post here. Would you do the same also?

Great news Monkey!

The NZ govt have set up a new pension scheme called the state sector retirement savings scheme. I have emailed them to see if I can transfer my UK teacher's pension and they said yes and that I can then continue to contribute thereafter! I have emailed the UK Teacher's Pension Scheme and asked if I can transfer my pension directly to this and they said yes!

This is great news as doing it the Britannia way it has to be converted to a personal pension ( probably worth nothing) and they take 5% for their labour.

Other good news is that as I am transfering sterling, it should be worth a lot in NZ dollars, either that or buy extra years!!

If I find out any more, I'll post it!

Thanks very much for the information, very good news indeed!
Clearly this is the way to go. Thanks very much for posting!

The possibilty that it may buy more years will be such a bonus! Yet another reason to make the move!

Thanks again Fisheress, you've made my day.

If these dont work, I just filled in the feedback/questions email on the websites.

Hope you have some luck!!
