Default Climate in Aug/Sept

Hi,
we have now decided on a date for our first trip to NZ!! 13th August to 3rd Sept!!
We would obviously prefer to go December time, but these are the dates that would best suit our hectic lives at the moment :icon_rolleyes:

We are planning to hire a camper van and tour both islands, can anyone tell me what weather to expect at that time of year. Christchurch is the most southerly point we'll be travelling to.

Cheers, Bugbabe and Co.

Hiya

I can't tell you anything about the rest of the country but I do know that one day last August I was talking to my MIL in Auckland and it was 20 degs here in Ireland and 20 degs on the North Shore! I don't think that's very representative tho'.

Heh, at least you will experience NZ in the worst possible season. - Mid winter to early spring. After that trip you can be sure that the rest of the year must be better :)

In past years at that time in christchurch people complained about their pipes freezing, last winter it snowed in the city, and theoretically you get the worst of the winter rain. (I say theoretically as we have had a miserably wet summer so far).

Really if you like it here then you will LOVE it for the rest of the year. Bring some very warm clothes....

Thanks for the replies, when I get back, Ill let you know what the winters are like. Not relishing the thought of Christchurch in the winter in a campervan though :icon_frown: :icon_frown:

BTW Netchicken, I take it you are in NZ now (Jammy thing!) but jelousy aside, where about are you, how long have you been there and are you enjoying it...if you dont mind me asking!?!
