However, i have a brother who is a resident in nz, i want to be a primary school teacher in auckland.....the place where primary teachers are needed and the recruiting agency i've been in touch with only recruit in auckland and I have a batchelors degree which i believe when its assessed will give me 50 points??? and i'm bringing money with me to set up the family

I would check again if I were you - are you clicking on yes for basic qualification - you degree counts at that level and even if it is not assessed you should include it.

Hmmm.... are you SURE you want to be a primary teacher in NZ?
How do you know that they are needed in Auckland. If they are then its not necessarily a good thing, inner city schools can be hard.

There is a demographic blip passing through from primary to secondary about now.

As a result school roles are dropping, schools are closing, and primary teachers are finding it hard to get work. I have friends who are primary techers, and there is gloom all around, job opportunities are only going to get worse in the next few years.

Mind you it means a bumper time coming for secondary teachers. :)

thanks for all your comments. my degree is a BEd so is a teaching degree. I want to be a primary school teacher because it's what i do best of all and work in a very large school in Birmingham which is not surburban bliss at the best of times.

My brother is a secondary teacher in Auckland and has friends who are in primary.one a headteacher who doesn't see any problem getting a job nearer to the new year start. On the immigration, primary teachers in auckland are mentioned on the skills list, but my brother assures me there are teaching jobs anywhere out there. My husband has been out to do a reccie with my cv too.but it's to early to get a post just now.which is why i need some extra points but where from?

Hi fisheress,
Can we go through your points to see how you that score ?

Offer of employment = 0 points (for the moment)

Relevant work experience (how much have you got relevant to your degree ?) = 0, 10 to 30 points

Quals = 50 for a degree

Age (sorry, how old are you ?) = 30 all the way down to 5

Examples:

40 years old with 10 years experience & degree = 30 + 50 + 20 = 100
30 years old with 8 years experience & degree = 25 + 50 + 25 = 100
29 years old with 6 years experience & degree = 20 + 50 + 30 = 100

How do you get 75 ?
You'd have to be old with little work experience ?! :icon_lol:

If you really are on less than 100, then you'll just have to get a job offer to get you those extra 50 points.
You have a choice for that. Either try from here, or go out and hope.

I hope that helps. Ask away, I'll try to help.

Cheers
Steve

Thanks Steve!
i have found my problem.Apart from the fact that i must be really thick, i hadn't clicked comparable labour market......so the indicator thought i was teaching somewhere like Outer Mongolia. I do now have 105 points!!!! I have just started to fill in the EIO but might wait til dec to put it in as i will get 10 more points if my brother sponsors me.which he will!!

Sorry for being so thick but i'm getting bogged down already. It can't be this difficult to get into Britain can it??

By the way. have you gone yet??
