Default NZQA Pre-Assessment not enough for Permanent Residency Visa?

I have read something today (in a friends ITA pack) that seems to suggest that if you have had the NZQA pre-assess your qualification for your EOI you will need a full NZQA assessment for the actual Permanent Residency Visa application. :icon_frown: Does anyone know if this is the case?

Cheers,

Chris.

Hi Chris,
I think you DO need a full assessment from the NZQA for your PR application. Although saying that, I would bet that if you phoned NZIS and asked, they would say the pre-assessment is fine!

It does state in a few places regarding immigration applications, that you will need to have your qualification assessed by NZQA, so i'm assuming this means the full assessment, not just the pre-assessment. Yet another good example of NZIS vagueness if you ask me!

A great example has just cropped up in the other post relating to pre-assessments...

It says in the email that 'Pre-assessment is required for the "Expression of Interest"', and goes on to later say that you need to get a full assessment for residency. Then it changes its mind and says you only need a full one if you need official registration for your career!!

If thats not going to confuse people, I dont know what is.. Unless i'm the confused one, and mis-read it!

Hi Taffy,

Yeah, it seems vagueness and contradictions are the way of the NZ government!

I have sent an email to the NZIS for clarification; I'm guessing that they will want full assessment even though you can actually do the same qualification in NZ! :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif Oh well that will be another $450 - $600 (if fast tracked)! :icon_frown:

Cheers,

Chris.

I have had it confirmed this morning by the NZIS that a full assessment is required for our ITA application:-

Dear Christian

Thank you for taking advantage of our Online Help facility.

You may use the pre-assessment report when you complete the EOI. When the invitation to apply is issued, you must provide a full NZQA assessment.

Yours sincerely,

So that's another $600 to fast track the assessment! Oh well in for a penny in for two grand!

Cheers,

Chris.

Hmmm, now I'm a little confused.... :icon_confused:

My uni is on the NZIS list of recognised institutions - does this mean I need to get my qually assessed when the ITA comes through then?

Hi Jodie,

Well it really depends on which of the statements on the List of Recognised Qualifications you fall into:-

[quote:d88498b2bf]
Bachelors degrees requiring 3 or more years of full time study from the following institutions are assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.

Masters degrees (except Honorary degrees from the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford and Masters degrees which are a first degree from Scottish institutions) and PhDs from the following institutions are assessed as occupying Level 9 or 10 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 55 points, provided the holder of the qualification also obtained their undergraduate (Bachelors) degree from an institution included on the List of Recognised Qualifications.

If the Masters degree is not preceded by an undergraduate degree from an institution included on the List of Recognised Qualifications, it is assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.

Honours degrees from the following institutions are assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.

Graduate and post-graduate diplomas require a NZQA assessment for points allocation.
[/quote:d88498b2bf]

If you are covered by the [b:d88498b2bf]?Graduate and post-graduate diplomas require a NZQA assessment for points allocation.?[/b:d88498b2bf] Statement then a full NZQA assessment will be required for submitting you actually application for Permanent Residence to the NZIS. :icon_sad:

Cheers,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

I fall into the "Bachelors degrees requiring 3 or more years of full time study from the following institutions are assessed as occupying Level 7 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points. " category - so I assume I don't need to have my qually assessed then - is this right?

Just as I think I've got a pretty good understanding of how this all works, more things come up to confuse me! :icon_rolleyes:

Thanks for your help,

Jod

Hi Jodie,

Yes, my belief is that you do not need to have your qualification assessed as you automatically qualify for the 50 points!

Cheers,

Chris.
