Hi,
Now I warned you not to read this.
If you've already shipped - don't read on !
If you've used a particular company - sorry.

What am I talking about you say !

Ok, check this link (it's from my 'peoples experiences' list):

Martyn Vizzavi ? Including pictures of the state of his stuff after being shipped by Anglo Pacific

Wow, is that all mold? What happened? Did the container take a dip in the drink?

See, now you see why all I'm bringing with me is what fits on the plane. If it goes down, I'm goin' with it :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif

How devastaing, it has put me right of shipping stuff over.

You wait all that time and for it to turn up like that, absolutely dreadful. It must of been a rough old crossing, how else would it of got soo damp, I hope they had excellent insurance.

Hi,
Why don't you people read the warning !!!!! :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:

Yeh, I know it's awful :icon_sad:

I've read the account of how his car was 'driven' into the container as well.
He got some really bad packers :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif

It seems like pot luck as to whether you get good or bad packers.
AP was recommended by someone elsewhere, and I think they have a really good website.
But, I always think that the measure of a company is not whether they make mistakes. It's how they react afterwards.
And that is what is so bad.

We're seriously thinking of doing the packing ourselves (like J !).
That way, all the shippers need to do is ship a container.

Cheers
Steve

Hi,
If you visit my NZ links page, and click on 'sea freight', I've added a link to the full story.
Taffy, this is a bit close to the bounds of what I think is acceptable posting, but I hope you agree that in this case it's worthy :icon_sad:
I'm going to be looking at sealing important stuff like photos and buying big bags of silica gel.
Most of our stuff isn't worth much, but some stuff I would hate to loose.

I think the main points are:
a) Make sure the container is light proof, by going inside and closing the doors.
b) Make sure the stuff that goes in is DRY.

Hi Steve,
No, I dont mind at all. You are right, people need to know how their stuff will be handled!

I will make one suggestion though, about your site.... If you're going to go slating companies in one section, then on the very next line state they are recommended and say how good they are, then you will end up with very confused readers!!

You might want to alter that page a bit :icon_lol:

Hi, all,

I've read Martyn's story, and it is truly horrifying. Learned a lot from it, but not the way I'd choose to learn.. I'd be devastated if such a thing happened to us!!

I would also add that it's a good idea to ask your shipper for an [b:3321e1b673]insulated[/b:3321e1b673] container. Frankly, I don't plan to ship our stuff in anything else. And I'm glad I sold my car -- I wouldn't have been able to bear seeing something like that happen to it!!

All the best, Rae

OMG :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif Martyn must have been horrified, I have had a quote from them and they were no 1 on our list, we were going to use them. OK i'm very worried as we only need a shared usage container we will not be able to do any checks. sometimes it makes me wonder why we are bothering with shipping at all.

Cheers Taffy,
I've made it a little more clear ! :icon_biggrin:

I still think the website is good :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif
And it WAS recommended - but I think this case kinda makes a dent in that :icon_biggrin: :icon_sad: :icon_eek: icon_exclaim.gif :icon_biggrin:

Cheers

Lisa,
I don't think this sort of things happens very often.
I have no evidence for that statement, but I think there would be many more posts like that if it was more common.
Just kinda makes choosing a company a bit tricky doesn't it !

By the way, you might want to consider getting the insurance from a separate company.
It's cheaper, and may 'help' in these situations.
Sadly I've only got one listed.
If you find others, or anyone knows of insurance companies for shipping, let us know please.
Steve
