treatment of immigrants

If ever a light hearted comment was taken the wrong way, it was now. While I admit my comment was generalised, at no point did I say that kiwis had absolutely no right to comment on the new generation of migrants. No one is debating the fact that you are native to New Zealand, but it is still true that ANYONE who is white in NZ is a migrant, or a descendant of one.

Why you perceive this as being looked down upon, I dont know. Some kiwis I have spoken to are proud to mention that they are decendants of European, American etc etc, but that doesnt take anything away from their pride in being a New Zealand native, and no one could think any less of them for it.

Accusing me of bringing the British class system with me was unfair. If anything, I am here to get away from that kind of society. That in itself is, in your words, a 'generalisation' of the whole British population, all being the stereo-typical 'whinger' and 'tall poppy'.

If anything, my perception of the Maori/White situation was wrong. I was speaking to a Maori guy not long after I arrived, and we were talking about migrants. His words to me were 'Good on you for moving here... I dont care where they come from, or what colour anyones skin is, we are all brothers'.

I would welcome anyone elses comments on this situation, as I dont believe I deserved such an attack for an otherwise innocent comment. If anyone else believes my comment is out of order, please say so.
